Akuret tire failure
Heading down I-95 South when a NC state trooper pulled me over. Said he saw something wobbling under my Columbus 320RS. Found this grapefruit size bubble inside the right front tire. Checked them all at 80psi 2 hours earlier. Typical China bomb junk. Looks like I'll be ordering a set of Maxxis on Monday.

I just had my Akuret tires replaced this week with Maxxis. Extremely pleased with my decision! When I bought my rig in 2012 several tires began to develope bulges. Dealer nor the tire company would replace them through warranty. Dealer did write to the tire company and the correspondence from the tire manufacturer said the bulging was merely "cosmetic" and not a defect. Put on only about 1,000 miles on the Akuret's. I DO check tire pressure every trip.
When you get the Akuret tires off, compare the sidewalls next to the Maxxis tire. You won't believe how flimsy the sidewall of the Akuret tire is compared to the Maxxis. Both tires are 16 inch E rated 10 ply and of same size.
I didn't want to wait until the Akuret's failed me.
Perhaps others have had good luck with the tires. I didn't want to be the "next" poster showing a blown Akuret.
Hope EVERYONE has a trouble free camping season this year!

Aren't Maxxis also made in China?
So is my iPad, Mac and iPhone.
At the end of the day, price is what makes the real difference.

Maxxis ST tires are made in Taiwan using a feature other ST tire manufacturers haven't tried, Quality Control.

I keep waiting for tire problems to occur with the tires that came from the factory...but alas with more than 10k miles on them the little rubber nubs are still on them.....they look like the day I accepted delivery....the only thing I can figure is that I drive 56-58 mph...have tpms...and they are always inflated to max cold tp whether they are moving or sitting.....they carry 80-85% of the max wt...never more....they are kept protected from uv....when I back or tow I have the tv in a manner that it follows the turn of the trailer....try never to put high side loads....I am not the guy that backs into a site with the tv at a 90 degree angle....I haven t hit pot holes or run over curbs.....when am I going to get a blow out, I feel like I am being cheated by not having one.....when I read all these tire posts.....that never seem to give full data....
I will change them out just prior to the 5 yr date.....even if they look new....btw almost everyone passes me three times during the course of the days travel.... so I get to see the bay doors flapping, the trailers swaying, and the 5 ers changing tires...
I still have not figured out how this math adds up?????

I have these tires too in a 15" on my 2014 Puma 5th. I try and stay at 65mph but there have been times I have seen 70mph when I wasn't paying attention.
These tires make me nervous for their reputation. I will soon upgrade to 16" BFG LT Commercial for piece of mind. Got 4 more short trips this season though.

Just had a tread separation on an Akuret tire this past Friday returning from the Frio River. Checked them before we left campground no signs of defects and had proper inflation. Was pulling around 65mph and stopped for fuel 2 hours into trip. Did a walk around as I usually do when getting fuel and noticed one low on air. Inspected the tire and found it to be leaking at the split where the tread was separating. Luckly I caught it before it blew out. I think I'm going with maxxis as well. Date code was 4711 on a 2012 Sabre manufactured in Jan- 2012. I made a complaint about Akuret HF 188's on the NHTSA website.

Have said it before, I wouldn't pull a camper off a dealer's lot with the factory tires on it unless they were Goodyear or equivalent. If you do, it's not a matter of if you're going to have trouble, it's just a matter of when.

Picked up the camper this weekend to make some modifications to the upper bunk. Extended it from a single to a double bunk. Before taking it back to storage, inspected the tires and all four are showing sidewall cracking. Have a trip planned for Destin in two weeks, so I will be replacing all four with Goodyear.

Replaced all tires on CC36RE with Goodyear "G" rated tires after losing two of the China junks that came on it and not had a problem with any of them.

We're heading out to Destin in about 4 weeks. Glad The tire decided to go on the return of a short trip instead of our Destin trip. With the new tires hopefully we wont have any issues.

While having my Maxxis installed, I looked some Goodyear Marathons in their shop. Still made in China.
If you must have Goodyears, hope they're the G614's

I have decided to upgrade my 15" Akuret tires to 16" wheels with LT tires. I have 6 lug wheels. I think I have a 6x5.5" lug pattern. Can anyone confirm. This is on a 2014 Puma 259rbss 5th wheel.
Sorry can't look right now. Trailer is in storage. Sorry for the derail on the thread too.

All ST tires are made in the far east. Maxxis included.

Excellent geography lesson, though there is a BIG difference between China made ST tires and Maxxis ST tires made in Thailand.
Bottom line, as long as an ST tire is made in China, it's junk.

Kinda like comparing corn grown in Iowa and corn grown in Arkansas. It's good if it's from Arkansas and junk if it's from Iowa. Total hogwash!
