Do you want High Definition or would you be happy with just standard definition? If you're ok with just SD than any of the portable antenna/dishes such as the tailgater, king dome etc. etc. will work. If you want HD then you will need a Slimline dish capable of acquiring 3 or 5 satellites depending on your viewing package. (I believe the 99, 101 & 103 sats. will get you most everything. DirecTv is "weeding out" the 110 & 119 sats.). You can either have the dish mounted on the roof of your rig ($$$$) or purchase a dish from ebay or other online retailer and set it up manually each time. (cheaper but, much more time consuming (and aggravating at times) to acquire the sats.).
As far as recording goes, I believe DirecTv (AT&T) you can still record regularly scheduled shows but, is now requiring an internet connection to record/stream On Demand movies. And there is an extra charge to have their receiver/DVR activated to record shows. (I just went through this with them 2 weeks ago) We opted to not go with our receiver/DVR since we don't have a constant internet connection while traveling from place to place.
