Question on vent fan Microwave

First kudos to Amxpress for his post about unlocking the microwave/convection oven vent flap on the outside. I was not shown this at my pdi and don't recall seeing it in manuals. My question is do you leave the flap open all the time after you unlock it. My concern with leaving it open while on the road is the possibility of rain blowing in through the vent. It is kind of pain to have to get the ladder out and open and close the vent flap everytime you hit the road. What do the rest of you do?

If you leave it unlocked it won't be there the next time you use it, they come loose pretty easy.

I've left mine unlocked on my 320RS. It's a pain to reach. So far, it's still there. That includes a round trip to Indiana from North Carolina. I'll continue to check it and if the cover comes off, I'll just get another one from FR....then I'll lock it down before each trip.

X2 amxpress, I unlocked ours when we got it home when new and so far have towed it about 1,500 miles and it's still there. The newer models are shielded much better and don't seem to be affected by towing. My 08 Flagstaff just fell off sitting in the driveway the 1st yr. Made a new on out of alum plate and never latched it and it stayed on for over 10,000 miles without being latched.
