We have a 2016 320RS that we started out with in March of last year we camped and traveled almost 8100 miles last year. The island has four locking castors and two straps that secure the island while in transit. We've had no problems.

Many in our Columbus RV group have modified the way to fasten it using different methods

We have a 2013 RS320 and have never had an issue with the island while traveling. There are so many advantages to the movable island I would not have it any other way.

You slide it back and it straps down in front of the rear sofa. Then the 2 slides come in and kind of sandwich it in.

Island concern

Hi - We have a beautiful Columbus 320RS and took it for the first long haul (6000 km) driving a variety of roads. After one rough patch, we realized that the couch in the back had become airborne, and the island as well. The damage amounted to:
- the clasps securing the curtains around the couch were broken off
- the wheels on the garbage end of the island snapped off
- the floor was dented where the island hit it
- small dent in the wall where the airborne couch hit
The dealer was understanding and supportive, and we've asked them to secure the island permanently to the floor, as we were positioning it in the same place every time we parked the rig. We were also informed that the couch should have been secured to the floor at the factory but was not.
Otherwise, a few minor deficiency items that are being addressed.

We looked at the 320RS and I was thinking the same thing, Attach to the floor and be done with it.

We have had or 320 for four years now and NEVER had any problems with movement. ALL I can say YOU need to SLOW DOWN. If the road is that bad . WHAT do you expect. The couch in the back is NOT tied down .

With a little background here. We have 3 4 lane highways that go to park destinations in Ontario. We have been on 600 series highways in Ontario many times. These are worse than The Alaska Highway with dips and curves between rock cuts. The speed limit on some spots is 40 mph and trust me you can not go over that. I would not matter what speed you drive damage could occur.
With out knowing which roads he was on we can only assume.

The couch should be tied down as well.

We put on over 8000 miles on our 320RS this year. Couch is not anchored down and no problems with that. We did have a problem with the castors on the island falling apart. Ball bearing started to appear. That happened after just over 4000 miles. Rebuilt the underside of the island and replaced the castors with some heavy duty ones from Amazon. No issues anymore.

We like the moving island in ours and that was a major reason for buying what we did. We travel with the 2 dogs and at night we move the island over near the sink to give them more room to play. Don't do that often but it we travel all day and weather is bad when we get to our overnight they need to do something.

I don't think I would buy one for myself because the floor plan doesn't look conducive to the way I cook which is "mise en place" style.

I want plenty of room on both sides of the stove so I'm not restricted in how I place the pan handles and my small ingredient dishes. Basically I cut up and measure out everything into small dishes, as well as lay out all my tools. That way I'm very relaxed when I'm cooking and I can quickly adapt as I go.

I would also toss out the microwave as they are pretty much useless if you are a chef.

Before I went to cooking school it would not have mattered about the arrangement, and I would have kept and used the microwave.

We have a 2014 320RS and have had no problems with the island coming loose. All good. I was thinking about permanently fastening it in place, but my wife likes the idea of being able to move it on the rare occasion that she deems it necessary. Enjoy

If all 4 casters are locked and the 2 straps tight, we've never had a problem in 3+ years with our 320RS.
I think the key here is locking all 4 casters. I also never travel over 85 mph.

Rolling island

The islands have wheel locks and are strapped down while traveling. We have one in our 2015 Columbus 320RS and have not had any issues with it.

I lock 2 of the caster's put a moving blanket over the island then the straps then I stand the dog bed on end between the island and the entertainment / fireplace have put over 5,000 miles on our 320RS and it has never moved. Bought 2 more straps unscrewed the freestanding table from the floor so that we can move it also. But strap it between the dining chairs laying down when moving.

We've had our Columbus with the rolling island for about three years now. The island behaves itself well when we're towing. Just put the brakes on the island's wheels and use the straps to hook it to the floor and you're good to go. We love the fact that, when we're in one place for a few days or weeks, we can roll the island into a corner of the kitchen or living area and have tons of floor space. It's a great feature.

Capt. Mike. I don't have the Columbus but I do have a rolling island in my Rockwood. It's handy for DW when cooking and nice for eating at but we have had problems with it.
First, it sits between the closed slide outs on lockef wheels while traveling. On 3 occasions we've opened the slide outs without noticing that the wheels had bounced up onto the slide carpet. As the slide moves out, the hem was pulled loose from the carpet. We had it resewn twice and had the carpet replaced at Goshen with a shorter one. Still have to be extra careful when opening slides.
Second, the island is top heavy (ours had corian with flip up sidebars) and has tipped over onto the stereo and fireplace after some rough road trips.
Just my experiences for you consideration. Good luck.
