Skid Wheels

So - we picked up our 31BHSC yesterday and were backing it down the driveway. The driveway slopes down from the street and much to our surprise the back bumper came within an inch on one side of bottoming out in the driveway.

My wife and I had this moment of panic along the lines of did we just buy a TT that we can’t get down the driveway to the launch pad?

We parked it without incident. Whew.

Someone said I should add some skid wheels to the bumper. Has anyone used these? If they keep the bumper from bottoming out, should they also protect the rear stabilizers?

I did not see this issue coming. My first TT was 22 feet. This one is 35 feet long.

Bumpers on those are not that strong. Wheels mounted to them, if the wheels made contact, I could see that damaging the bumper. Something mounted to the frame would be much stronger.

You could add wheels, (solid) or frame sliders, but whichever you choose, mount them to the frame just in front of the bumper, not the bumper itself. As stated above, the bumpers aren't much more than steel storage containers for the stinky slinky.

If you add them to the frame, then it "should" do what you're wanting to do, which is prevent bumper and / or frame damage. Keep in mind, it will take weight off the trailer wheels, so there may be some creaking and popping throughout the camper as it flexes when applying pressure to an area it isn't used to.
