How can you possibly be happy with a short bed? What happens when you are out with your mates and get rolling drunk? Your buddies will have to curl you up and hog-tie you before they toss you in the back, otherwise you won't fit in. So much extra responsibility and effort to put on them for no reason. Buy a long bed then all you have to do is drop the tail-gate and flop.

whats to man up about its all the whining about back of cab being damaged from short bed people and a rough ride from being a short chassis and I cant back in with a long bed . if you like your short bed then don't complaining about turns and damage

Short bed truck no problem. Long bed truck is for people that have problems using a short bed truck.

I have a 6.9 bed also, change out the pin box to a Reese Sidewinder if your trailer is under 19000 GVWR, put your hitch back where it belongs over the axle and be done with it. You will 90degree all day long after the sidewinder is properly installed. I've been using one for 2 years now and love it with my short bed. All Sliders will become noisy and are really heavy. I have a Comfort Ride Hitch with my Sidewinder, no chucking, no bouncing, no issues at all.

I have been very happy with my 6.5' bed and have zero problems with my 5er. Apparently I need to rethink this. Just to be safe I am now upgrading to this

In those pictures of a truck going over some minor ravine, I've done that in my long bed, super duper long bed in fact.......and it does it. I have yet to find any valid disadvantage to it, and many advantages. But as the man said, that's ME, and I don't care what you have.

That said, here's a story.

Pulled into Whittington, IL campground on the way to Indiana last month. Was connecting water, etc. and a guy pulls in next to me. I mumble "How are you" as we all do. He actually answered. "I AIN'T DOING WELL".

So, knowing me, I asked WHY? So he told me. He said he just hit the cab of his truck with the cap of his fifth wheel. So, I begin to look. Truck and trailer are both brand, stinking, new, and truck is a SRW short bed. So, knowing me, I said "So, don't you have a slider?"

Man says (and as Dave Barry says, I ain't making this up), "I guess not. I think the dealer was supposed to put one on, but I guess he didn't".

It took my pea brain a bit for that to sink in. At that point, I abandoned the water connection effort, went to other side of trailer, so he wouldn't see me break into laughter. Which was evil, I know, but my gosh.

I love these threads! For my personal truck, I always have 3/4 ton short bed with sidewinder, because I like the looks better, it fits in my garage, and does what I need it to do.

On the farm, we have about every configuration of truck there is. I do notice the ride is substantially better on newer trucks. I really don't feel any ride difference between short and long beds on extended cab trucks.

Long beds have much larger turning radius, but not anything you can't plan ahead for. Parking is about the same, no parking lots are planned for fullsize pickup trucks, so we always park in the back.

As far as pulling ease, again, no difference with my sidewinder, truck bed length doesn't make any functional difference.

So it really is just a matter of preference. I don't like the way long beds look, they don't fit in my garage, and the shorter bed functions the same as a long bed when used with my sidewinder. Easy peasy.

My 2500 HD crew with standard bed (6-6) is 19-6 long. Many towns have 20 foot parking spaces. Or too narrow isles in the off-street parking. Even if I can get into a space, there's no guarantee I will get out after the Mini Cooper and Geo Metro fore and aft have been replaced by full size cars. Thankfully we are both still healthy and can walk from the outlying areas where we can find an end spot where we can't be pinned in.

I can't imagine going into Carmel, CA or Moab UT with a long bed.

I fully understand why some buy or need long-beds.
I fully understand why some buy or need short-beds.

What I don't understand is the folks that don't know you but tell you that you bought the wrong one, or that one is somehow "better" than the other.

I have a RAM LB, Crew Cab, Dually. The LB portion hasn't been a problem, But the Duallys have been a problem at times.

Don't get me started on turning circles/radius. Long bed Chevy 2500 attached to an even-more-longer 5'er (34'):- regular turning radius (as far as the general ignorant public is concerned) about 1/3rd mile. But can still do a jack-knifed U-turn on a suburban street.
