Whats our bike rack capacity??

Hey everyone,
On our Sabre, the stated bike rack capacity is 450lbs. which may or not be accurate? from the manufacturer.
We want to carry a small (250lb.) gas scooter on the rack, and wonder if anyone has put that much weight on their bike rack with success, and if it did fail because its called a "bike rack" and not a scooter or a storage or a cargo rack. appreciate any comments..
Thanks

I carried a 220# Kymco scooter on the back of my Sabre on the "bike" rack with no problems.

How you get it up on the rack? I'd like to carry a moped, but it's nearly 300 lbs. Probably would need some kind of hoist.

I use an aluminum folding ramp like this one:
Amazon.com: Folding Motorcycle Loading Ramp Aluminum 7.5 Ft Harley Davidson 750lbs by MOTO-D: Automotive
I use ratchet straps to secure it to the tray.

amxpress: do you have any pics of your scooter on the rack? Just curious. I have a Zuma 125 and would really like to bring it with us camping. Right now it sits at the house getting dusty.. Just would like to see how you have it strapped down on the rack. Thank you!!! Earthstation is my counterpart.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures showing my Kymco on the back of my Sabre.
I used 1" ratchet straps like this: 4 Piece 1" x 15 Ft. Ratcheting Tie Down Set
I used 4 straps, two in the front, wrapping across the handle bars down to the rack and two securing the rear of the scooter to the rack. I placed a pad between the scooter and the ladder to prevent scratching. I always kept an eye on the straps and usually only had to snug them down after the first 50-100 miles.
Good luck.

I do have a suggestion just to be safe, check the weigh limits on the bumper on your camper the max weight limit on my Rockwood bumper was 150 lbs and that was not to acceed 6" sticking out away from the camper like a bike rack would.

AMXPRESS,
Did you keep the kymco butted up close to the rear of the coach body or further out on the rack, and the rack didn't bend a bit?

It was centered on the rack. Took it on a 1800 mile trip two years ago with no problems; this was with my Sabre.
