2018 ROO 233S Tail light problem

The stop, turn and marker lights on our ROO work fine. However the tail lights and the rear view camera do not. There is 12v at the truck on the tail light connection at the truck. There is only 4.5 volts at the tail lights as well as the camera wiring splice to the marker lights.

Anyone had a similar problem?

Thank You, Curtis Johnson

no - we have not had that problem. but what is interesting is our rear view camera is powered by the marker lights - since you have marker lights, you should have power to the camera. so you may have two different issues??

Multiple Problems

Yes, there are multiple issues.

So far I replaced the trailer plug which improved the voltage to 6 volts. The replacement plug I purchased had an led that was supposed to let the user know it was powered. It also was the cause of the drop. After removing it I was immediately getting 10 volts to the tail lights.

I bypassed the trailer wiring completely and ran 2 wires (ground and tail light) to the rear of the trailer. I now was getting 12 volts to the tail lights, both tail lights now work great! But as soon as I add the rear marker lights the tail lights dim and there is only 6 volts on that circuit. I guess tomorrow I will start disconnecting marker lights one by one to see where the problem is.

Right now the camera is not the problem since I disconnected it by cutting one of the wires.

Final Answer

In case this will help someone else.

After checking every wire in the back end of the trailer for continuity I decided I better just replace the lights. I got a complete set on ebay for about $120.

Replacement went pretty easy and after all was said and done everything works fine, including the rear camera! I can only guess a power surge that took out the trailer light relay on my truck did some damage to the marker lights as well.

I have attached a diagram of what I found for wiring on my trailer for tail lights, I hope it helps someone.
