Great tips! The one about the straw in the soda can reminded me of my trips to NYC. Each time I brought a can of soda there I was given a straw while here in SoCal you have to ask for it if you want a straw.
I'm going to use the tip about the ear phone cord. So simple but looks like it would work.

Those were good, thanks for sharing.
I had posted about the left and right exit side signs in another forum several years ago that generated some good responses.

Another good tip, that I had read somewhere...was how to test to see if your electronics remote control is working (ie checking batteries).
First turn on your cellphone camera. Then, all you have to do is aim the infrared remote at your cellphone camera and press any button. Your screen will show up the light emitting from the infrared transmitter.
The guys and I tested this up here at the shop, and it works. We got a big kick from it.
They say the same technique will also work with security cameras, so you can see it's infrared lights.

Weird, it didn't redirect for me. Just sits there and says URL not found. Otherwise I wouldn't have bumped this thread.

I read this on another life hack site. It's more of a FYI thing than a hack, but interesting nonetheless for those not aware:
If there’s an arrow next to the pump icon on the gas gauge, it’s there to tell you which side the gas tank is located on.
This comes in handy when renting or borrowing a car.

That arrow symbol has been around for some time. I don't know why,but our 2013 Cadillac gas filler opening is on the right side (passenger) of the car. Kind of confusing sometimes.

Before the arrow, the hose on the pump indicated what side of the car the filler was on.

I had also heard that whichever side of the dash/instrument panel the gauge was on indicated which side of the door the filler was on.

Well here's one many people don't know that low gas light isn't for you.
The light comes on when the internal fuel pump is becoming exposed in the gas tank. It is important for the fuel pump to stay submerged in gas because the pump generates a lot of heat (it is an electric motor running when ever the car is) and the gas helps radiate that heat away from the windings of the pump.
Generally speaking people who drive with the vehicle's low fuel indicator on have a higher rate of pump failures.
Ford, at least in the older models, uses such a big pump that the light on an F150 comes on at 6-7 gallons, that's not exactly what I would call low fuel in a 20 gallon tank.

It's only makes sense that people who drive with the light on would have a higher rate of fuel pump failures due to overheating. I imagine that fuel pump cavition due to low fuel plays a role also.
I wonder just how far these people can drive when the light comes on?
Regardless of how big the pump is or at what fuel level the light comes on,I'm glad there is such a light.

things you didnt know you didnt know.
makes sense on the low fumes warning
as for the fuel pump and gas opening it doesn't help in a rental car if you can't get the locking gas cap off because the rental place forgot that the key fell off the ring - right.
