Fifth wheel Height

I am looking for fifth wheel models with a max height of 12' 10'' in the 35'-37' range. Is anyone aware of a web site that would list these in general ? i have been searching each make and model separate but with dozens and dozens of makes and models it's a slow process
Thanks

Hello Lonewold,

I have not seen such a search anywhere. One thing to consider is hitched height. My Fifth Wheel is 13 ft 3 inches specified on sales brochure. Newer trucks are very high compared to older ones raising the towed height.

If you are looking for a Forest River check their website for specs. On my Cedar Creek 38EL the website said 13' 5" but it turned out to be 13' 7" plus. I measured several times and got about as sophisticated as I could. Once you narrow it down if you have a hard height limit then make sure you verify and put in the purchase agreement that it must be a certain height or deal is off.

Hi,

My 2014 33RL Silverback is 13'6" with vent covers -- the actual maximum measurement when hitched. I don't have access to the brochure that gives the factory height number, unfortunately.

I mention the vent cover specifically because my Fantastic Fan brand cover adds 10 inches, IIRC, to the location where it is installed -- in my case the tallest portion of the trailer over the bedroom. If not for that, the air conditioner housing likely would be the highest point, but I no longer recall that measurement when I took it several years ago.

FWIW.

According to the spec sheet on Columbus, the tallest is 12' 6", however, this does not include any vents, AC TV Antenna heights etc, so you need to remember to add them too.

Check out Coachmen Chaparral, they have a few that seem to fit your requirements.

Welcome from Georgia, BTW. I currently have a chaparral 336tsik and its been a great trailer. A few items but overall a good one. Hitched it is 13' 6" on my truck and it's almost exactly level. I have the front AC. I checked the website and the specs show 12' 5". That's probably about right. Let me know if I can help further.

When I bought my Wildcat it was advertised as 11'11" however after getting it home Found out the hard way that it was higher after I hit the roof fasia board on the carport. After some minor damage to air conditioner. I got a 2 X 4 and level measured to ground and found out it was 12' 4" so the numbers on the website is the top of unit high point and not the air conditioner.

Yes, take the heights with a grain of salt.

My Cedar Creek Hathaway RE34 was listed at one height and did not include the factory installed second ac. Also all modern trucks are tall, which can raise the height.

Lots of fivers were designed 20 years ago and must be raised a lot beyond level. You have to level the fiver and measure to the bottom of the Unit to compare. This dimension is never displayed. Sometimes you can get pin height. Another gotcha. More expensive units are more accommodating.

At one point many fivers were less than 60” to the unit at one the hitch. Most modern heavy duty four wheel, trucks are near 60” at he side rails.

I wanted an Open Range light but, it would be 4-6” nose high. Not ok.

Be careful.

Research, research. You cannot sort by height.

In the fiver world there are lots of gotchas.

Yep, exactly, verify when it comes to the height, weight, etc. I always use a tape and a 2x4 to measure the exact height from the pavement to the top most point. A level parking lot is where I go.
