My 2017 F-250 SD didn't come with the block heater and I've been checking into adding it on. Guess I'd better wait and see what Ford comes up with on their fix!

Never gets cold enough where you live to warrant it IMO.

My wife’s uncle in PA would use it so that his truck would blow heat right away on his short drive into work.

That's why I was wanting to add it to mine. Truck started very easy last winter when it was -10 degrees here. But it takes at least 10 miles of driving before temp gauge moves at all! I was hoping it would help heating up quicker, but I'll wait to see what they come up with to fix the fire problem.

Huh. Our F350... with a block heater... is due for delivery the first week of January. So do suppose they sealed the connector “the right way” last week at the plant, or do I need to immediately give it back to the dealer as part of the recall? LOL.

I plug my 2012 F-250 diesel in when it gets below 20 degrees here. I never really noticed that it warmed up any faster when it was plugged in.

Well, I initially read this out of curiosity, since I didn't have a block heater on my truck. Or so I thought. I never really thought about it being in the Houston area. Well, I checked my window sticker (will verify on the truck itself if I can remember to), and whaddya know. I do have the block heater. I have never had one on any of my previous trucks, and never gave it a thought. Until curiosity got me again. I'll have to check with my dealer now about the recall. I'm due for my first oil change anyway.

You never can tell what these manufacturers are going to do. Your in Houston and have the heater. I'm in WV and no sign of heater installed in mine. Just curious where your truck was made at? Not sure if that makes a difference or not but mine was made in Kentucky. Just a bit of curiosity on my part!

What year is your truck? Earlier ones all have the block heater however what it may not have is the cable attached that you plug in to.

2017. I thought it might have the heater and no plug, like most that I had heard about. But no joy, not even the heater installed. Just a plug in the block and sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Kentucky. I think all the F-250's are made there.

Yeah, I think they might have quit installing them unless ordered on the 6.7s. Even if you live up north. I know all the 6.0s which I previously owned had them.

I recommend pulling the recall notice and ensure dealer does that before you pick it up.

Yup. We do live up north, and as far as I could tell, they stopped providing the block heater as standard equipment about the middle of last year. Until then, if you lived in a cold part of the country it came automatically. You still paid for it I'm sure, but you didn't have to specify it as an option. Now, no. You have to order it, which we did.

That... is a great idea. Thanks!! I will. According to the website the truck is being delivered tomorrow. LOL. I kind of doubt that, but it should show up soon. I'll bring it up with the dealer when they call to tell us they have it.

My 2018 F350 came with a block heater. It was $90.00 on the window sticker. I am sure I will never use it here in NC.

Did your dealer handle the recall? I tried to get my dealer in Austin to handle it before my trip the Angle Fire after Christmas and was told I needed to get it taken care in a cold climate area. Went to Angle Fire New Mexico and temperatures got down to -18. Truck started but got low fuel pressure warning and truck went into limp mode. I have an email into ford to ask about what my dealer is telling me.

any reputable dealer should be able to fix this for you. if they wont/cant, take it somewhere else. its warranty work, they just dont want to do it. at -18 your fuel is probably gelling unless you have winter blend in the tank. you may need a fuel additive for those temps.

Fun fact, before you turn off your trucks, flip your heater to front defrost only (not floor and defrost). it will help, partially, with frost on cold mornings. i have mine plugged in a lot and it really does keep the windshield mostly clear. heat up time is also drastically reduced.
