Forest River - Seriously?!

To the folks at Forest River. I understand to be competitive you have to keep cost down but some places you just can't skimp. Look at this pic of the 12v junction mounted to the frame. You mounted an electrical junction to the frame, outdoors and didn't use stainless parts?! This is just 3 years old and driven just twice in wet weather. Shame! Shame! Shame![ATTACH]

You will have a hard time finding a manufacturer of the circuit breakers that makes them out of or with stainless fastners.

I am absolutely the last person who will defend Forest River. I think their quality is poor and service is worse.

What I would suggest to you is to clean up all the cables and buy yourself a spray can of Corrosion X. It's the most potent corrosion preventer I've ever used and I believe you will be impressed with it too.

I would also consider running the cables and new breakers in a PVC electrical box. A 4X4 inch box fits pretty well in/on the frame rails.

Since we are talking Low-Voltage (12 Volts) here ... consider something like snap-top or snap-lock food storage ... they are easy get get into, close securely, have a nice gasket, withstand temperature extremes, and are cheap.

Stainless steel has it's own issues. It does not conduct electricity as well. Nuts and bolts are prone to galling, which allows hardware to seize up on it own. Which will be a bigger headache. FR could have put a smear of die electric grease on them to slow the corrosion for pennies though.

That was going to be my next mod on our 2018 Cherokee 304, but as they have all the wires pulled to maximum tightness, I'll first have to rebuild the entire loom coming from the battery so I'll have enough slack to mount everything in a watertight box. And that will be whenever I get it back from dealer to get the 9 dead electrical outlets working again. Expecting to get it back in time to winterize and put cover on before snow flies. Got 8 days camping out of brand new trailer....that's PATHETIC !!!
Just cancelled our 8 day trip we had planned yesterday.

Someone here can give you contact information for your manufacturing line.

Clean up the connection, then use this on each one. Check it periodically and reapply, if needed.

I thought he was just exclaiming his frustration like lots of others do on this forum which is after all about peoples experiences with their individual product while using it for the purpose it was intended.

I certainly did.

From the title of the thread, the very first sentence and throughout the entire post, everything was directed towards FR.

They didn't ask for suggestions on how to fix or what they were going to do to fix, just venting their frustrations to what (IMHO) they thought was FR.

Good bad or whatever just my opinion......... I have owned campers since the 1980s the first being a 1973 Terry. No matter what brand the quality today is better than back then.

A lot of people use social media, this forum even, as an ad-hoc psychiatric tool, it has therepeutic benefit and is way, way cheaper than sitting in a couch for $95 - $135 - $250 etc. an hour.

Plus, where else can you get your black tank emptying skills judged on an Olympic points scale ??? ( Insert scene from "R.V." )

If the site team / moderators got even a distant whiff of what their time is worth ... well, that, and if wishes were horses. "Heck," even Lucy van Pelt got paid better ....

Take a look at what it takes to become a "Certified RV Technician." They want five years work experience before one can even apply to take the test. No wonder there is a shortage of skilled assembly and repair people.

So, "Dear Forest River" ... people are noticing things about design, engineering and build quality.

As customers and owners, the experience is whatever it is, but from observation it also seems that people who are more adept at problem solving and who have a certain set of mechanical / electrical / plumbing etc. skills are also spending more time RV'ing and less time being frustrated.

Will save "managing expectations" for when there is FAR more booze at the ready.

I don't think Dan was rattling his knuckles. It was simply an informative post to the OP that he may not be reaching the audience he intended to. If he truly wishes to solve the issue, if not for himself then for future RVers, then he should pass the information along to the proper division of FR. They can't fix the issue if they don't know it's happening.

If it was simply a rant to fellow RVers about a problem he was having and just wanted to get it off his chest, that's fine too.
