RV Model Numbers

I was told that the numbers in a RV model number are the length of useable interior floor length. IE mine is a 297RLDS so the interior floor
length should be 29'7" long. The overall length is 35'2". Can anyone confirm if this is correct ???? Just curious.

Absolutely not.
Model numbers do not equate to length. It would be nice if they did. But they do not.

They may, in some instances, be close.........

From what I have picked up through the years is:

if the model number has only 2 numbers ie. 28RK then the 28 is the length of the box.

If the model number has 3 numbers ie. 280rk then the 280 is liveable square feet, I think this also includes the slides.

This is my understanding to date

Oh, one more thing, it should be noted that these numbers are not totally accurate either

Some model numbers mean something some model numbers mean absolutely nothing it just depends.............

So not advisable to put money on any of them....

My Rockwood Mini Lite 2503S (same as Flagstaff Micro Lite 25KS) has a box that's 22ft long and and overall bumper to hitch of 26'-9". So I don't think either of those theories is correct. Since the Mini Lite comes in several other floor plans (2502S, 2504S, 2505S), you might think they're all 250 square feet, but that doesn't work, either. The basic box would be 22 x 8 = 176 square feet, meaning the slide would need to be 3 ft wide x 25 ft long, or 4 ft wide by 18 1/2 ft, or 5 ft wide by 15 ft long, which it isn't.

Thanks - I didn't think it sounded right when I heard it either. Was at a RV show and over heard someone comment on the model numbers. On the other hand it looks like on at least some of the models the letters seem to make more sense. RL=rear living room BH=bunkhouse etc. My TT is in for warranty work so I could not measure it to check.

One thing that you can pretty much guarantee, is that the actual trailer length will be longer than the numbers in the model number.

(RV Manufacturers don't exactly believe in truth in advertising!)

Model numbers are just that... numbers. Sometimes they mean something specific other times they are simply an identifier. They may give you the ability to compare between similar units by the same manufacturer. My Coleman CM16FBS was 16' on the floor. My Airstream Sovereign International 31' was only 26'-9" on the floor.... go figure.

Thanks EDABEUT.... I was wondering about the letters...
So if the 'RL= rear living room'.... would 'BS=basement storage' ? my guess.

My Wildcat model # is 30rlbs.

Just trying to take some of the mystery out of the reasoning.

Thanks
Islander

they are also misleading to buyer's, when we looked at the 27KB, we were told that it was 27 ft long, and that is why we really like that particular one, because we figured my DW would be more comfortable with a coach that length, and then when we were filling out the papers, we were looking and it said 29 ft long, which is not a big deal to me, but the DW was kind of po,ed because the guy should have known what he was selling,,, anyway

SS? I don't have six slides, nor seven. Not even a super slide.
