A good mountain bike for decent price?!?

Me and my wife are looking for decent bikes to take camping with us to enjoy some of the bike trails at the CG's we visit. We have a 8 month old little boy that I will be getting a bike high chair and taking him with us everywhere so the extreme mountain bikes are out of the question for now.

My question is how many of y'all take bikes with you and what have you had the best of luck with? We want something good and comfortable but we are also on the cheap side as we will only be using these bikes when we camp.

Do you want to go off road or unpaved trails?
Or just ride around the campground or paved trails/roads?

Cheap bikes will weigh much more than more expensive bikes.

I have a rocket 2 schwynn full suspension mountain bike. It was pricey and is light. My wife uses a mongoose all terrain bike. It's not a rock like the Walmart type huffy's but does have some heft.

Go to a local bike shop and buy a good name brand Mtn bike. I'm sure any LBS owner will be glad to listen to your wants and fix you up with some good bikes!

Off road trails for sure. Just nothing to off-road when we have the little one on the back.

I would love to do that but, we live out in the country and there are zero bike shops anywhere near us.

Lots of bike stores here in the Austin area!
You can find some great deals on used Mtn bikes, since one about has to give it away to sell it. I'm sure a standard hardtail (no frame shock) but good front fork shocks for the bike to be used with the child seat. Mtn biking is such an evolving hobby, it's tough to keep up with all the innovations. As for wheel size, 26" 27.5" or 29" shouldn't really matter. I could ramble all night and day about Mtn biking LOL

Yep, I've been mtn biking since 1985 and the technology advances have been amazing over the years.
