Ham Operator
Hi Red: I am a general class license ham. I have a Windjammer 2012 3100W and live full time in my rig. I am set up for Vhf,UHF and HF. I have rigged the ladder and jack stand to attach my antennas. If you need pics of my set up let me know and I will post a couple.

Kf4mnc here going on close to 20 years. Never been real active as I have too many hobbies.
Now that I've started to travel more I've really gotten into Aprs so my family can see where I am. There is a ham that wrote some code with google maps that lets people see my location with street view. It really is pretty neat. All you need is a Aprs capable radio.
Enjoy the hobby, maybe I'll catch you on the radio. I'm usually monitoring simplex on the 2m national calling frequency when I travel.

KK4DUZ here. Got my ticket last September. If you really want to learn, join a local ham radio club. The mistakes I've made so far are because I didn't ask the folks who know. What I love most of all are the many facets of ham radio. There's always something new to learn and something new and different to do. Never boring!

W4KDB licensed in 2003. I am an extra class operator and work mostly HF from my home base station. No current plans to add a rig to the truck or trailer but I do carry a handheld 2 m/ 70 cm handheld when traveling. More info is available on my website at:

KA2DTH since '79.
Icom 706 MkII G with a couple of different tuners and a longwire & mini G5RV for operation near the trailer.
Yaesu FT-857D mounted in Towing vehicle with 2M/70cm mag mount & hamsticks for 20/40/10M on quick detach mount. LDG tuner for HF. Independant battery mounted in rear with PowerGate switch/charger.
Still tracking down a bit of electrical noise on HF when the TV is running...
Good luck on the test!

Okay, so I'm scheduled to go take the general test in mid June so I can start to play on HF. This sure is a steep learning curve. I pressured my dad to go with me and test for the Extra license.
Are you guys using HF on mobile rigs in the TVs? The reason I ask is that I'm ready to buy a new HF radio. I don't know if that is going to stay in the house or whether its worth it to put in the truck. I have an older Yeasu FT212RH 2M that might work nicely in the truck and be a step up from the handheld I've been using.
Is there a little more art/science to hit the HF skips? Does anybody really use the 10M repeaters? I just wonder if it'll be a waste of a nice quad band or if I'll actually get to use it.

Where did you physically mount your radio? And, how did you run your antenna cables?? I don't have a ladder on my trailer, maybe a tongue mount might work, if I have any room left up there.

Actually, that would be really neat to see. We dragged out my dad's first HAM radio. He picked up a board so we could add CTCSS to it. But once we got the radio apart, the main board inside of it was cracked from one end to the other. He was pretty bummed, but I think we'll fix it anyways. Its a pretty robust construction, single sided PCB. If nothing else, it'll be a frankenstein looking thing by the time we're done with it.

Oh hai kids.
You're looking at the newest general class licensee around. Well, I have a CSCE for my general, KJ6VSP/AG
Just got back from the local ham club meeting, palomararc.org, even though I'm not a member.
So, whos going to participate in field day later this month?
Oh, and anybody have a Yeasu FT-897D kicking around they want to get rid of on the cheap, lol... No, but seriously. You know its about time you got rid of that old thing and got yourself a nice new upgrade radio. Think about, you'll be helping out a new ham, and I promise I'll take great care of it and use the heck out of it.

I have a G5RV stretched between a couple of trees, but no pictures of it yet. But everybody knows what those look like.
This is my semi-mobile HF setup. Trying out some digital modes on 20M. Once Winter comes back around, I'll be able to get out and do more camping, where I hope to be able to play on the radio in my down time.

The user name says it all. since 1989. Usually carry a 2m 440 in the truck and a hh for the tt. Wife won't let me install a rig. In my past life we would field day from my old trail lite. What a sight that was...

I need to pick up another 2M HT to leave at base camp. I'm using a 2M/440 Baofeng that I really love, especially the price! I got a few pieces and parts to go mobile next trip out. But, I still need an antenna... I'm thinking a center/self supporting dipole i can put on my flagpole. Maybe just for 6 and 10 meter? I think my flagpole is only 16 or 20 feet hight...
