Branson MO Tragedy

A horrible accident on Table Rock Lake this evening when one of the Duck boats capsized. At least 8 are dead and a number of injuries. Not a lot of details yet. Here's a link. Stone County sheriff reports 8 dead, 7 injured after duck boat capsizes on Table Rock Lake

Said winds were probably over 70 at the time of the accident. What a horrible tragedy. Prayers for the families.

I don't get the connection about duck boats and wondering about trailer parks and rv parks.

Sad very sad! What on earth was that boat doing on the water in the first place considering the weather conditions?

Big winds and storms passed through the area which contributed to the boat sinking. There are a ton of RV parks in Branson so I think BandJ was wondering about damage to RV's at those parks.

Supposedly the water and weather was calm when the boat entered the water and the storm came up out of nowhere.

There was a line of very strong pop up storms that hit the area yesterday afternoon. Iím sure they were unaware when they started their tour. This has happened before, not on this scale as I recall, but these ducks seem to capsize often.

Branson Duck Tragedy

Such a tragedy! They were all about safety on the Branson tour that we took a few years ago. (We enjoyed this duck tour more than the ones that we had taken in the Wisconsin Dells.)

On a side note, once we got onto the lake, the Branson captain asked if anyone would like to drive the duck. It was like someone else had pushed my hand up in the air! I drove for a really long time while the captain gave his talk about the lake. He asked if anyone else wanted to pilot the boat. Nope, so I kept driving. Finally, a lady from Canada volunteered. I even got a certificate when we got back to the office.

Why on earth do they not require you put on a life preserver during the water portion of your tour? I would have thought insurance companies would have required it. Sitting on a box of life preservers has proven it is not a good idea time and time again. Especially the kids! Everyone most likely would have survived if they were wearing preservers or they were easily obtained. So Sorry.

We’ve been in Branson when storms have come up very suddenly so I can imagine that scenario. Pretty terrible consequences, that’s certain.

I've been on quite a few boat tours - Ducks and otherwise. None so far have require the use of life preservers while on the water; just that they are available (which is also the Coast Guard regulation as far as I remember).
