Federal Conceal Carry Bill

The way I understand it, if you have a conceal carry permit, it would be good in any state, INCLUDING CALIFORNIA! Have I got it right? Hopefully?!?

I don't know how that works in the lower 48, but you have paperwork to fill out before you can enter Canada. Canada advises you to have the paper filled out before you get to the border. This is for any shotgun, rifle or handgun.

I haven't had a gun since 1980. Sold all I had to a gun store when I moved from Indiana to Wisconsin. I still have the receipts.

I believe the bill allows concealed firearms that are authorized in the home state to also carry concealed in a state that allows carry of concealed firearms. This does not automatically apply to states that have not adopted a concealed firearms legislation.

Where I camp at times a Shotgun would be more useful for a bear if attacked in our RV. Never had a situation where a handgun would solve a animal (human either) problem in better way.

I figure states such as mine (Maryland) and others which are "MAY ISSUE" states will challenge if it passes. Plus, I have a sneaky suspicion it may it get watered down in the Senate, if it passes at all.
While I can see the advantages of this, even HB 218 (Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act - LEOSA) has limitations state to state, jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Co-workers shared an article in a periodical from their representative organization which spells out some of the issues in LEOSA and going out of your home jurisdiction. So, hopefully not stepping on toes here, if LEOSA has issues, and it's for retired/qualified separated LEO's, I don't think something for John Q. Citizen is going to be any better, if as good.
JMHO.

I purchased a guide book from my instructors of my CCW class. They (and the book) explained the "legal" way to carry a firearm in states with reciprocity laws that honored my states CCW. So I am confused on what the big deal is with this law.
As I understand, this new law only applies to states that will honor your issued CCW not CA,NJ,IL ect... That's the way it is now, so...? I could be wrong on this though.

Honestly, I carry in every state and have legally used my firearm in CA. If I am ever questioned I just explain to the officer if this (my) weapon makes the difference between him or his brethren seeing their wife and kids after shift, then it's a good thing. Right?
Never had a problem.

I agree with your first paragraph - that is my understanding, also. My DW and DS have CCW permits from a different state, which allows them to carry in 34 states, except their home state of MD. Crazy, but true. I carry 2 weapons when we go somewhere; mine and DW's. We get across the MD state line into one of our neighboring states, I give her her weapon.
For your second paragraph.... I understand your statement and probably wouldn't have an issue with it given most situations. However, there are LEO's out there who enforce to the letter of the law.

I will hope it passes... It should have a long time ago. Seems to be no troubles with states honoring drivers licenses and vehicle traffic through them from other states and driving is a privilege not a right. The second amendment is a right.

OK, as in the two threads that were closed yesterday, these gun topic ones always derail into things that are guideline violations and cause strife here.

General discussions of politics, general government policies, weaponry, gun rights and religion are not allowed in ANY areas of the forum. Discussions about current or pending legislation or regulations, weapons and religion that directly pertain to RVing are acceptable but will be closed or removed if they wander off topic or become disruptive.

The site team has multiple reported posts on this thread.

Thread closed.
