So Sorry
Sorry his happened to you.
This is one of my biggest concerns where I am. There are some very tall trees all around me and almost everybody else. It was very windy yesterday and I was watching those trees bending, just wanting to topple. I take my dogs running back in the woods a couple times per day and I am always noticing newly-fallen trees back there. I guess it’s just a matter of time before one falls on my camper. I dread that day.
Good luck getting back out.
Bruce

I live in a very heavily wooded park. I have a 16 year old camper because of it that we leave there all the time. If one comes down we are only out about $6000.00 dollars. It happens but I would never stay in a cow pasture. I love trees.

Awful. Glad nobody was hurt or killed. Those two kids in the back seat of a car in East Texas were not so lucky.

I should have mentioned that no one was hurt, thank God. We were not directly at the camper when it happened. The camper was fine at 7AM and by 8AM - done for.
The thing is that the campground had called in a tree surgeon in fall and they had taken out all the dead trees that they thought were in danger of falling over. This PINE was a healthy tree, but we have had so much rain the ground is saturated and with the heavy winds over it came, roots and all.
Also, we had been on a waiting list for a seasonal site and finally got one of the ones we wanted. Never even slept there.
I just don't know where to start. We have the site for the rest of the season. I am not one to just run out and buy something, it took me a long to find the right camper for us....guess I am fussy. Not sure if I can "sub-let" the site or if it will need to sit empty. A lot to think about.
Thanks for all the well wishes!!

Do you have full replacement value with your insurance? With some luck you might be able to find the same trailer and pick up and start over. I see your from Pa what campground are you in? Best of luck and hope it all works our for the best.

Yes. I checked my insurance, there was a small extra fee of $24 for Replacement Cost coverage.

Ok good so I assume you took the coverage? Did you get your unit at Stoltzfus, if so maybe they can help you under the circumstances.

I would bet that due to the nature of the incident (act of God) the campground would let you sublet if you decided to wait until next season to replace it. I would call your dealer and ask about replacing it with same unit. They may be able to provide a used loaner until it can be replaced. Being it is so new, they may also be interested in the salvaged unit for parts.

Happy you are okay. You can get another trailer.
I am a retired forester. I always wore a hardhat in the woods. We get in the habit of looking up all the time. Remember to do that whenever you set up a camp. Glad you were not in a tent.

Not sure again, what to do. I got a call and a letter from the insurance company. They will not say whether they are repairing the unit or total it. The letter states " you reported that the pine tree fell on the RV and thus there may be holes in the RV roof. I would like to advice you to take whatever steps are necessary to limit and mitigate your losses arising from this incident. Since additional expenses such as exposure to weather and failing to take actions may not be covered, you will want to quickly mitigate your damages w a prof water remediation service."

It is a responsibility of campground owners to take out problems trees. Standing dead, dead tops, leaners and large dead branches would be examples. The USFS is pretty good about it due to liability issues. Have a talk with the owners of the campground.

It's their job to assess and recommend remediation of the damage, not yours. I would not touch anything without written recommendations from them. They could say what you have done caused extra damage. Sounds like a shady company to me. Should have had an adjuster out quickly.
