Help, Engine Power Is Reduced on Chevy Duramax

On the road today I had a blow out on one of the fifthwheel tires. I left the truck running while I changed the tire. I noticed that the hub was loose and wiggling quite a bit. I must not have tightened the nut well enough after repacking the wheel bearings a month ago. After fixing that and changing the tire, I got back in the truck and had an Engine Power is Reduced message on the instrument panel of my 2008 Chevy Silverado 3500HD dually duramax diesel. Anyone know what this is or how to correct it or what is causing it?

When was the last time you had the fuel filter changed?

Look at your fuel filter % status on the dic.
If it reads 0% it's a good chance it needs replaced.

I got rid of the factory fuel filter and installed an adapter to be able to run a caterpillar filter.

Its been about a year and a half ago. I drove about 5 miles home at about 65 mph and didn't experience any reduced power. The owners manual stated that power may be reduced the next time the vehicle is driven. I will have to check the fuel filter life. A diesel forum stated that it could be the fuel filter, Air filter or the throttle position sensor. I have a turbo on the truck and haven't seen an air filter. know if there is one on there somewhere? I bought the truck in 2009 and it is a 2008. i have never changed an air filter because I couldn't find one. thanks for everyones quick responses.

I'm gonna guess that the extended idling plugged up the DPF.

A diesel particulate filter.

I am going to guess your truck is before them.

Go to the nearest Gm dealer and have them plug into your obd
You need to know what codes it's throwing otherwise it's a guessing game
Good luck

Happened to me too. It means the particulate filter needs to be cleaned. Let it run and it will burn it out and you will be good to go.

Watch out though, the exhaust gets pretty hot while doing it. Using high sulfur fuel, long idles, and long periods of disuse will cause this condition. Take it out by itself for 30 minutes at high speed.

Posting a phone number in an open world wide forum is an invitation for harassing phone calls at all hours of the night.
Wish it weren't so, but it is what it is.

PM me if you want it edited.

I'm feeling pretty stupid. Not sure what the 7.5 - 10 LMM is. i looked under the truck at the exhaust and can't tell if it has the DPF exhaust filter. I did find an air filter in the catalyst compartment that leads up to the turbo. I've never changed it and the dealer never mentioned it when i have had it in for oil changes
