No thank you sir. Please don't send any of that my way. Stay safe and warm. We did take a camping trip last weekend over the New Year holiday. Rainy but warm. Only used the furnace a little one night.

We just got hit with a quick 4 inches overnight in NJ. Getting real cold here. The good news: One more week and we are half way through meteorological winter!

Here to report there’s no snow AND no bugs here on the North shore of Lake Ontario where it’s sunny and -12C or 10F.

On the plus side….
The days ARE getting longer.

I ask myself that every time I have to drag out my shovel and/or snowblower and put on 4 layers of clothing just to get my mail.

My wife's and my parents are mostly what keep us here though. We looked at moving farther south a few years ago but it didn't work out.

Likewise for us although my winter is not as extreme as yours. Have to stay here to help parents. They would be lost without us.

Geez Kris! If you’re their support mechanism, it really is amazing that they made it this far.

I remember those cold mornings when I lived in Northern Illinois. Delivering newspapers when it was -25F with the wind chill.
Now I live in California where today's low is 38F and high of 59F. Oh and yes, my wife is still freezing with a sweatshirt on, in the house at 66F.

81deg here at the moment with light breezes and a few puffy clouds for a nice bit of contrast. I am so glad we moved out of the Western NY snow belt.

Mom is dying. I feed her, bathe her, move her from bed to chair and back and clean up all the feces and urine. Every day. You would be lucky to have someone like me taking care of you when you hit this stage. I have no kids. I try not to think what my future might be like.

Here in Anchorage we have a high of 6°F. Below 0 expected tonight. Just came through a massive "snow storm" last week. 5-6 ft of snow driven by 70 mph winds out of the Chugach Range. So bad they actually has to close the schools. That rarely happens. Good news is that the wind has blown all the snow off the TT. The bad news is that my ADCO cover that I recently bragged about going on year 6, became a fatality. Literally shredded! More snow predicted through Friday. On the upside, we're gaining about 3 minutes of daylight each day this week.

How far are you from that town that has 30 days of night?
**Geeze, I just looked up Barrow, Alaska. They won't see the day again until Jan 23rd. I can't even imagine.

Barrow is about 730 air miles north of Anchorage. Been there one time and didn't see any reason to go back there. Interesting thing about Barrow is that it's the gateway to the National Petroleum Reserve (NPRA).

Your parents (and your job) taught you what the truly important things are in life. And you paid attention. That is the definition of an adult.

Both of our parents are now gone and we try to keep our kids happy because one day they may have to select our nursing home.

If that doesn't work out, well, I still have your cell phone number.

Hang in there, we went through that. My dad was a WW-II vet so we could get some help.

Maybe there's some other help available.

Sucks it is what it is.
