Hurricane Harvey & Gas Prices.

I guess it's because of HH that the price at Murphys today at about 1:30 local was $1.95.9 per gallon for regular. Two hours later it was $2.09.9.

This was for gasoline already processed and in the pipeline.

I'd give my left nut to only pay 2.09 for a gallon of gas. No I wouldn't.

We have laws against price gouging with tropical storms or hurricanes in Florida. Also, the gas stations along the interstates in Florida must have generators by law.

$2.09 is well below the current state average in Texas.

Maybe it is. However,to go up 14 cents is quite a shock to us that have been paying less than $2 a gallon for awhile.

I'd love to pay 2.09 per gallon ~ haven't seen anything like that up here that I can remember. Paid 2.24 today and that was for 87 octane-10% ethanol.
With the season changes already starting up here, won't be long before we pay dearly for heating fuel.
Of course ~ 'Leaf Peeper' season isn't far away, so there goes the gas prices up even more!!

I'm not sure this qualifies as price gouging,at least not yet. Interesting about the gas stations along Florida interstates being required to have generators. Any other states have a similar law?

Happened in Granbury, Texas overnite! The hurricane was NOT an issue at the time. Gas is on the rise.

Around here I would be surprised to see a .14 cent increase, it is generally .20 - .40, sometimes more, strange how the drops are always under .05

I live a long, long, way from "Harvey" and our gas prices went up 20 cents overnight.

I heard on the news that Gulf Coast refineries supply 45% of the nation's gasoline/diesel and 35% of the refineries are in the path of "Harvey".

Operators are shutting down before the hurricane in order to prevent even more damage should the storm hit while operating. Likewise for all the production platforms.

This is going to have an effect on fuel prices all over the country for some time if Harvey is as damaging as it could be (based on predictions).

I guess I'll just have to look at it as just another $20 or so for every tank fill.

At least I don't have kids in college anymore to support.

Any excuse to raise the price. Seriously. It will go up 10 or 20 cents at a time, come back down a penny at a time.

It not over yet. You can bet that the refineries will find an excuse to run out and jack up prices. Never Fails. Glade not traveling till later next month. Later RJD

Put yourself in their shoes. You have a commodity that you can sell every drop you produce when everything is working well along the chain (production, refining, transportation, retailing).

Where's the incentive to hold prices down? Heaven forbid that our Government gets involved and tries to regulate prices. When President Nixon tried that it only created shortages and rationing.

Me? I have a truck to tow my trailer that runs on gasoline. For my driving around town I have a 2017 Chevy Volt. Since I purchased it I have purchased less than 20 gallons of gasoline, my last purchase being in June.

A full battery charge takes $1.80 out of my wallet and it will drive me a total of 60-70 miles, depending on speed and hills. Since I do everything when not traveling in the trailer within a 20 mile radius I don't need much gasoline. Now if that sucker would just tow the trailer and get the same "mileage".

$2.99/gal, 89 octane where I live in Washington State and I'm less than 30 miles from four refineries.

The only plausible reason I've ever come up with for our higher prices is that the gas is fresher.

I'm just down the road from you.

One reason for our outrageous gas prices is the $0.494 gas tax. Every gallon of gas has a half a buck going to the state. They then use this money to bore a 58 foot diameter hole along the waterfront in Seattle.

I'm on the road now, heading for Moab. We will see how quick the prices move inland.
