LED light strip installation

I want to install an LED light strip in one of the cargo bays on my fifth wheel. I have a light in there now but it is right near the opening and doesn't provide enough light throughout. Can the light strip wires be soldered into the existing light so as to run off of the on/off switch on the light or does it need to connect to some other source. Anyone know what I need and/or need to do to install this?

If your cargo light is 12 volt Google or Amazon 3m 12 volt light strips. I gutted the 12 volt fluorescent tubes in our old Teton an simply wired them to the existing light wires ,they also sell strip to strip adapters that can be cut and used to wire two different lights. The 300 led rolls if I remember right are 16 ft and can be cut every 3 diodes. If you need more info pm me and we can e-mail back and forth.
