So sorry to hear that Ron. It is an extremely difficult thing to do and we just went through the exact same thing less than a month ago with our Chocolate Lab "Cowboy". Not a day has gone by yet where I don't miss him, but I do know that he is now pain free and in a better place, as I am sure Toby is as well. Just know that Toby lived a great life and had a blast taking part in the adventures with you, your family, and everyone he met.

Thanks phrank and your welcome.

It was a long day today and coming home to stoke the shop wood stove was definitely not much better.
Toby not meeting me at the door was a tear jerker for sure.
Every day should get better but the shop and I are definitely missing his presence.

The forum comrade has lifted my spirits today and I thank you all for that.

Turbs,

I didn't mention this up thread because this is about you, your family and Toby.

DH and I are facing this scenario with our oldest dog. We know it's coming, but that won't make it any easier. We don't take her camping because she's totally deaf (deals with it like a trouper) and if she slipped off we couldn't call her back.

She's DH's buddy for sure.

I and DH sincerely hope this gets easier for you and your family. Remember him always and take comfort in knowing that he lived the life *all* pets should live.....pampered and loved....and such a well traveled big guy!

(I was scrolling through one of your albums today, and there he was in the snow!)

(((Hugs))) from us to all of you.....and you all have yourself a Blessed Christmas.

So so sorry. I always enjoyed the pictures you posted of Toby. His joy of camping and being with people came through. Reminded me a lot of my lab mix. I still miss her. They are special companions in our lives and I truely belive that we will see them in the afterlife.

Sorry for the lose. Maria and I are glad that we got to meet Toby at Goshen, he was a special pup for sure. The memories of all the great times you got to share together will be with you and family forever.

Turbs, Just checking in on the forum. I'm sorry for your lose of Toby. Lost our Dusty on a camping trip to NC about 3 years ago. We can never replace one pet for another, but we can always hold the memories close forever.

We found another Cocker about a year after Dusty passing. Tucker is much different than Dusty. Having a whole new personality giving us many laughs and joy with unconditional love so you never replace your old friend, but gain another. Ms Amy is spot on it takes time.

Hang in there Turbs.

Thank you!
For some reason he took a "special" liking to my next door neighbor in goshen, evidently sneaking over to his place in the early morning hours and requiring youroo to pet him as he sipped coffee.

Turbs,

I've heard it all my life that dogs are a good judge of people.

Our Fred (who was given 2 days to live 4 years ago this Jan. 4th by LSU vets)
has always loved people and never met a stranger...until
Thanksgiving while we camped in Hot Springs. There was a guy there he took an instant dislike to which shocked us. I still wonder about that guy.

Imagine a Doxy with an Irish Setter coat and that's our Fred. DH says he's a 4 legged endorsement for Valium. We're told he's half Doxy and Half.....Poodle???? LOL

Oh, and the deaf one, Chelsea, is a Cocker.

You mentioned how Toby made sure he never got left behind when y'all headed out camping;
Fred *knows* what's up when I start loading the RV and gets more and more excited as the day goes on.
The other day we took the RV in for warranty work (so there was no load up) and put the Fids inside while we hooked up, since we leave the double privacy fence gates open while doing that.
Once we hooked up and pulled the RV into the drive we let 'em out one last time before leaving for the day.
Fred freaked out! He *ran* to where the RV sits, then hauled butt to the crack between the gates he uses to look outside. Then hauled it back inside and ran for the garage door.
Oh, and Fred smiles, *and* laughs. He was doing both, thinking he's about to get to go camping again!

Yes, our dogs become family don't they? When and if you decide to bring another dog into your family's life that'll be one *very* lucky dog.

Hold on to your memories with Toby and keep your heart open to the idea of giving another Fid the awesome life you gave Toby.

We have had many pets over the years. Each one, large or small, had its own unique and special personality. There is no such thing as "just a dog" or "just a ferret", etc. When they have to leave us they are remembered as true individuals that carried their soul in their eyes, and shared their love with us. We hope that we will be together again at the end of our stories.
