Phone plans

I looking at reducing costs of phone plans. I have VZ the Mrs. has AT&T . She is not pleased with service and costs. I have a company phone so I can't put her on my plan but I like the service. VZ is not high on her list because of costs. She has 3 lines on her current plan. She insists on paying for phones for the kids (adult kids with good jobs???) We are looking at Boost, T Mobile, Virgin and possibly Xfinity mobile. Any thought would be appreciated.

We love the 55+ plan from Mobile, for $60.

If DW insists on having your adult children on the family plan, check and see if you can qualify for any discounts.

https://www.att.com/offers/discount-program.html

I get a 17% discount because I was a gov't employee in Ventura County when I signed up in 2006. Personally, I like AT&T. Good coverage and helpful customer service when I needed assistance. Had Sprint at one time, but I had dead zones in the house and had to go out front to get a decent reception.

Cheers,

Oh, also... if your paying monthly payments for the phones, see if you can pay off the remaining balance. I just paid my final 30th payment on my phone and bill will go down $25 now and do not plan to upgrade since my Note 5 serves me perfectly well.

She get 15% though her employer and is on a family plan. Her plan actually has 4 lines but only 3 phones. It was cheaper to have 4 vs. 3 lines go figure. Thanks for you input.

Stay with AT&T with DirectTV. You get the unlimited data streaming DirectTV anywhere (including camping) so to watch favorite programming, you don't need to add satellite to your camper.

Just my opinion..at age 18 children are no longer children and can pay for their own phones.

I had someone come into my office where I work and said he would pay his daughter's bill because she was a little low on money. He thought that some day the kids would be old and mature enough to pay their own bills without assistance. He was 92 and his daughter was 70! If you don't stop it, it will continue indefinitely.

I had Att for 12 years. Got tired of paying for additional data turning off kids data usage for 10 gb of data. Moved to T-Mobile with 4 iPhones and got on a “hook up” pricing that is 20% off for life. Now pay $128, with taxes, for 4 iPhones with unlimited data.

Sure T-Mobile coverage is not as good as Att but I’ve learned to live with that.

We've had VZ for so long I can't remember. When I was working (driving truck, NW only) the company had AT&T. Many times I had to use my VZ phone to be able to call the office due to the lack of coverage.
I tried a Sprint phone for a few days, less coverage than AT&T, so we are still with Verizon.
I think our cost is too high but we enjoy the coverage, $115 a month for 2 lines.

I had 5 phones on my plan and when my bill got to $300/month, I quit! We have had Straight talk for 8 years now. Ours is Verizon service - we pay $45/month per line (4 lines now) and we each get 10 gig of data per month with unlimited talk and text. You can't get that any cheaper......I've checked. It's great service and we have only found a couple of places on the E coast that we did not have good/acceptable service.

My iPhones are with Consumer Cellular. My iPads are with T-Mobile. 2 each.

CC bill is $40 a month. TM bill is about $15 per month.

About $55 per month. 4 devices.

Verizon might be a little more expensive, but it works wherever we go, while folks who have other suppliers, don't. It is worth it to us for the coverage when we travel.

I have AT&T... not that happy with it for coverage and I might change to VZ.
A friend that travels with me sometimes has Sprint and gets decent coverage on the interstates and any city, but usually loses signal at many rural campgrounds... where I may only get 1 bar... not good for streaming but at least my phone still works. He does have the 4 lines with 2 kids and a wife on his plan he likes his payment and all have unlimited everything.

So if you stick close to the cities then look at Sprint.

Tried att&t poor coverage- tried sprint, horrible customer service. Both times I went back to big red. (Verizon)

Yes it cost more but for me its worth it. Its also a good idea to call big red once in while. Last time I called my rates went down $30 and my data went up from 2 to 4 gigs..

In our area no cell service works at our house. Verizon is the best if the weather is just right and you stand on your head you might get a text through if it is one word.................... But Verizon has terrible customer service.

Verizon is expensive though......... Every time a sales rep says they can save us money our bill goes higher..... We are well over $200 now..... Customer service is rude and poor.......

Same here with Consumer Cellular. They use AT&T or T-mobile for carriers depending on region.

$40 per mo with 3 gb of data, unlimited everything else. This amount of data has been more than I've needed so far. They have inexpensive plans up to 10gb but after that it can get expensive.

When on the road I find more than enough public Wifi for ordinary stuff and just use my data for times I need absolute security.
