I guess the other post close but anyways I'll start a new one. I'll be packing quite a bit of gear on our trip west. Thinking about build a stand behind the drivers seat to hold tripods and gear. Anyone done anything like that? https://ybconway.smugmug.com/Photo-Gallery/[/IMG]

I enjoy photography too but of a different variety. My gear travels in my camper and fills the entire storage area under the rear bunk beds. Here's a photo of my camera plus a few of my favorite pictures.

Those are amazing. I just bought a sky watcher but haven't used it yet. I don't intend to try any deep space shots. I have Canon full frame bodies but my long glass is too heavy to use with that so I'll concentrate on MW shots for now.
We are planning a stay at Grasslands National Park on our way out west. I called about reservations and was told there was an Astro event the week prior to our visit.

These 2 photos have been on my want list for a while. I was able to finally capture them recently. The first is dwarf planet Pluto. I had to take images on different nights and look for the dot that moved.

The second photo is the Horsehead Nebula. This nebula is very dim and you need really dark skies to capture it.

Great pictures timfromma!! We camped at Lake Powel and the camper behind us had a full array of telescopes and cameras. He even had a telescope that was filtered to look at the sun. He gave us a great schooling one night. When I got home I Googled his name and the first thing that came up was his picture on the cover of Astronomy Magazine. I guess he was better than I realized
