I belong to 4 RV forums (RV.net, a Keystone forum, the old FRS forum & FRF). Since the email specifically targeted me as a FR owner, I figured the spam must've originated from a FRF member.

X2

Especially when you're spamming people on a similiarly themed forum.

We belong to this FR forum, so what would we gain by joining another 1?

Andy I still think FRF members should be notified about this development & give them a heads up about the spam.

I agree. I am waiting for my attorney to advise me on how to proceed.

Here is a copy of the Email in Question, who is Gaven H? I have removed the Link from the below content so no body clicks on it by mistake. Since I do not know who Gaven H. is I treated this as the SPAM it is.

Dear Forest River Product Owner,

You are cordially invited to visit and join, along with other Forest River Owner, a new web site and Discussion Forums. Please excuse our new web site as it is under construction, but the Discussion Forums is in operation and ready for you to take full advantage of. We are band new and currently have 20 - 30 members on the Discussion Forums.
Also in the makings is a Gift and Apparel Shop. The Gift and Apparel Shop is presently under construction and when open for business, will offer items such as Hats, Shirts, Coffee Mugs, Sticker and more. An RV and Camping Accessories Store is on the drawing board to offer items for your Towing and Camping needs.

Please visit the site at the web address below.

Sincerely,
Gaven H.

I also got the e-mail. I looked upon it as being just another forum to gleen information on RVing. So far I have not received any other unsolicited e-mails.

being sent to you to solicit membership to the new forum. Had I known about it I would have advised against it. Based on this action, I have now decided that I am not going to work on that forum either. It is time for me to get away from the message board business for a while and pursue other more important projects.

I wish all of you the best.

An update on the spam mail I started getting. Looks like this had nothing to do with the new board. It looks to have come from another site all together. The timing was suspicious but unrelated.

I got it to, the main page was kinda fishy looking in my opinion. Once i got to the forums section it looked good but there was very little posts and nothing in my area. I assumed they wanted me to join to help with the park model section but i have enough forums as is.

I am kinda of the mind that this whole thing is a "tempest in a teapot", especially if the "emails" that some of the good folks here received were actually PM's (private messages). Any member on this forum (and all others, for that matter) have access to any other member via the forum private messaging system, so if I, or any other member, started up a new forum which I thought might be of interest to members here, it would be a very simple procedure to invite them to join my new forum.

I do wish however, that the subject forum of this thread had chosen a name that was substantially different from the name of this one. That certainly appears to be an attempt at identity theft or at the very least, confustion.

IMPORTANT QUALIFICATION: If in fact, a person in a position of trust in this forum actually stole confidential info such as member email addresses in order to promote their own agenda, then I unequivicably retract this whole posting and apologize in advance to the Moderator.

VTX-Al, the message I received was to my email account instead of a PM. I think that others have experienced the same thing.

I am just going to let it ride. The email account I use for forums and online ordering is a "junk" account that I can easily delete if it gets too busy with ads and stuff.

The software logs every single click an Admin makes and I have proof of the data which was taken.

We haven't got one yet and for once it feels good to be left out. When this all shakes out I sincerely hope it wasn't our admin's doing as I have always enjoyed his comments and additions. That being said..Thanks to Andy and crew for watching out for us and getting on top of this for us. Old Guys

I didn't get an invite. Don't think I want one, I'm already on on here and on the CC forums and that's more than enough.

I see no reason to run off and join another Forest River forum, Andy and Co are doing a fine job here. Of course you will always get the disgruntled few who feeel they have to run off.. You know "The Grass Is Always Greener" syndrome. Me, I am happy here as there is a great bunch of people and more come every day. SUre you get into the odd disagreement but thats life, it would be a pretty dull place if everyone was of the same opinion.

Nuff Said.
