Personal property tax here in our Virginia county on cars, trailers, boats, etc. But real estate taxes are relatively low. One way or another you pay the man.

My issue is that there doesn't seem to be a correlation between value and tax. My truck is worth a lot more than my camper, yet the taxes on my camper are almost double that of my truck taxes.

Here in Rhode Island ours is called a *Motor Vehicle Excise Tax*..
Even though our travel trailer does not have a *Motor* we are still lucky enough to get taxed on it!
Our first year of ownership (2016) was actually only 8-months and we owed $500 for a $19k trailer.
We are anxiously waiting to find out what a full year of ownership will get us this July when the new tax bill comes out!
So for our 2014 Honda CRV, 2011 Ram 1500, 2006 Tundra and the trailer we paid just under $2000 for this wonderful tax last year.

After reading some of the stories in this post I don't feel as bad about our taxes here in California. Paid 8.5% sales tax on the TT when we purchased and we pay a yearly registration fee which amounts to about $150.00. Of course our car registration is expensive, it cost costs me almost $900.00 a year to cover the truck that pulls the trailer. Our gas taxes I believe are the highest in the nation, we are paying almost $3.60 a gallon for gas. I could go on and on about our taxes but I'm going to go out and enjoy our 75 degree day on my boat today. Sorry guys that are still snowed in.

I'll take the property taxes every day over those gas prices. Filled up this morning for $2.14/gal

I guess we all pay one way or another. It cost me $127.00 to fill my truck up yesterday. Our gas prices are higher than Hawaii thanks to our taxes on gas.

Must be some advantage to live in a high tax state but I cannot think of what it might be. Here in Florida I pay about $40 per year to register the trailer, about $2000 property tax on the house, $2.40 per gallon for gas and 6.5% on anything I buy. But once I buy it I own it and do not have to keep paying yearly taxes on it.

Called tax assessor, answered some questions and was able to reclassify camper as 2nd home. Taxes were reduced by almost half. Thanks.
