Terrific news; thanks for the update. Also, thanks for the trip planner lead which I'd never heard of. Plan to implement my own Guy Fieri moments during next months drive to Florida

So Happy for Laura and you Lou

I want to tell you that I have been following your story and have not made many comments. Right now I am at the point of meeting with the transplant team and doctors about what the whole process is. I am in stage 4 CKD and will be going through what you have. I can't tell you how many prayers I have said for Laura and you Lou. I am so happy that your lives are almost back to normal.. My wife is and has been a rock for me. I could not imagine going through this with out her and the support of my family. I will continue to stay as positive as I can, but knowing that you both made it through this gives me positive hopes that I can too make it a successful surgery.
Staying strong and taking it one day at a time.

Laura and Lou...

Hallelujah!

Thanks for sharing your story as your journey has unfolded. The difficulties with which you have dealt and the challenges overcome to date pale when compared to your positive attitude and the example of patience, commitment and resolve which you have demonstrated as you have navigated those challenges together. Your story has doubtless inspired many, and provides valuable lessons in perspective, fortitude, love and gratitude. The FRF community is fortunate to have you with us. May God continue to bless you and your house going forward. Keep up the good fight.

I wish you and your family (and donor if you have one) all the luck and success in the world.

Without a living donor (match or not) be prepared for a very long process of getting qualified (not everyone is) for a transplant and the long wait time (up to 7 years for rare protein markers) for a pre-volunteered cadaver kidney (PLEASE EVERYONE - Check Organ Donor!!!!).

With a living donor (our non-match daughter in our case), it was still 20 months from the day she found out and volunteered her kidney; got qualified to donate (LOTS of tests (months worth) to make sure she was healthy enough to donate); and find a chain match for the swaps. Monthly blood draws from donor and recipient (Red Caps) so the system has fresh blood on hand for potential match ups. Last minute re-draws and overnight mail costs to get it to the match pair hospital for "mixing". Mixing of the blood is the final test for compatibility. If the blood clots at all, it is a "no-go".

Her kidney went to a lady in Oklahoma who she would love to one day meet, and that lady's daughter in Colorado sent her kidney (that was a Laura match) to PA.

PLEASE have faith that this will work for you. We had months of yo-yo mood swings when delay after delay complicated the process. We also had several false alarms when potential swap pairs were rejected due to risks to Laura due to "plumbing" mismatches or the "Mix" was bad.

Keep the faith and with our prayers you will be back camping before you know it.

Lou

I would have never believed that this thread, started by our beloved friends Neil (OldCoot) and Frankie Dunn in April 2014 would go to over 700 posts.

Thank you all again,
Lou and Laura
