what are the fees you pay to camp.

Again another thread that doesn't quite fit any where so even tho its camping related it in off topic.

1) what do you normally pay to camp per night?

2) what are the amenities associated with that cost? Water? Sewer? Electric?

3) Do they charge for guests ?

4) weird fees?

5) extra charges? A/c use? Water heater use? Pets?

We've camped at two CGs and one in-laws'. The CGs all had a flat rate - about $25-$30 per night if memory serves. Both had full hookups (WSE). Couldn't tell you about guests, no weird fees, no extra charges, don't have pets.

The inlaws however supervise my drive and parking, oversee my set-up, expect camper doors to remain unlocked regardless of time/activity and the fees are always unexpected and generally overpriced.

This last complaint of overpriced may be void as we use the barter system, so it is difficult to value the trade of chopping wood as compared to all the free supervising we receive. It probably comes out even, now that I think about it....

Mine is hard to quantify - we're Thousand Trails members and prepay for up to 60 or something nights per year. There are some visitor fees ($5/car) and occasionally $3/day for 50amp service. But my per-night fee is based on how often I go.

In total, I have 70 nights of camping planned this year. But, that's not all Thousand Trails parks. Right now, I've camped for 10 nights and have outlaid $850 so I'm at $85/night. But, each night that I actually camp - it goes down.

For instance, if I camp all 73 nights (and that doesn't include any plans in October) -- even with paying for a few nights here and there (commercial campgrounds and state parks), I'll likely have a per-night cost of $12 for mostly full hookups sites.

We try to utilize specials as much as possible so I will guesstimate at about $35 a night overall. sometimes as low as 25, sometimes 45. Also, depends on extra fees ( like I'm gonna camp without AC in Florida in the summer ~ well spent $2 ) but most places we stay are full hookup.

Texas State Parks are usually $22.00 per night with full hookups. I believe sites without sewer connectivity are 16 to 18 per night. No other additional charges...

Campground Fees and Comments

Florida state parks vary in price a lot.
$45 per night at Topsail Beach RV Resort State Park, FL. Full hookups. Too fancy for us.
$21 per night at Manatee Springs State Park, FL, water and electricity, with a dump station on the way out.

Mostly $15 to $25 for state parks in most other states with water and electricity.

$3 per night in a city park in Malta, MT. Dry camping and no dump station, but a great place. Very small town, the camping sites are among the swings, picnic shelters, etc. After T-ball in the adjacent field the kids and parents came into the RV/city park while the older kids played their game.

$14 per night in Tulelake, CA, Fairgrounds campground. About 25 sites in deep grass, nearly new full hookups, on the last street of a very small town, with a deputy sheriff living in the first house just outside the gate. The campground is behind the Goats and Sheep barn. There were RV's and boats stored there when we visited.

In over 250 nights camping in the last wo years we were only charged extra for electricity one time. The owner of a UP Michigan campground charged $3 for A/C or electric heater. He said he pays $0.22 per KWH. His base rate was only $24 so I thought the extra was reasonable. In my opinion, in his case it was a better deal to charge the high kwh users and keep a low rate for those who use little electricity.

I wonder how they would figure a price on weird. I call that free entertainment.

If you brought an extra car
If you used water heater on electric
If you had a portable dish / via paying for their park cable
If you checked in early. really ? No one is there anyway!

That's a great bargain OC. Do you have to be reserved well in advance?
Do you ever get locked out because they're full?

Only time there is any problem is from 01Jan -31Apr at Thousand Trails Orlando. We have to make reservations 120 days out for 2 weeks in/1 week out. Other than these dates, never a problem and they have overflow campgrounds if full. Never heard of anyone being locked out. They also have overnight parking.
