What are these?

So I was in a NW Oregon state park today and saw these hanging on the wall.

Isn't that one of those audio tour stations? You drop in money and you can listen to fun and interesting facts about the park and local wildlife. They change out the cassette tapes from time to time in order to keep it interesting for return visitors.

I don't know, but sometimes, when you stick your finger in that bottom slot you get a dime.

Antiques that 20 yrs ago were state of the art, the bag phone then flip phone, notice they kept getting smaller now the tablet phone and the watch phone. I remember my dad getting one of the first hand held calculators and spending a crazy amount then for it. Electronics has come a long way.

I looked at that, someone filled it full of names and numbers but they sure did print nice and straight.

Should have left some blank pages for others to fill out.

I believe it is an extended range communication device. There should be a slot in the top where you can put a quarter. Press the numbers 1-8-0-0 followed by any 7 numbers. A voice will tell you to press 1 for english at which time you can talk to someone in Indonesia, Bangladesh or The Philippines! (And don't tell me these things only work in Canada)

If it was full of names and corresponding numbers, it could be an identity thiefs notebook that got left behind in a hurry. Did you turn it in to the authorities??

I have family in Oregon. I sure hope their names weren't in there.

There was a uniformed person there, had this big round funny shaped hat on so there may have been some type of investigation on going.

Cut my teeth repairing those for the phone company in Las Vegas, pre 1972.
The Southern Nevada Telephone Company, (now Sprint I think) used to empty all the coin boxes on Tuesday after the weekend rush to make payroll on Thursday.
Good Times!!

Haven't seen one of those in forever. Use to laugh when we saw one; no place for Superman to change his clothes.
