LaydBack people always refer to me as 'you're so laid back' and I try to live pretty stress free and easy going, so I just threw a twist to the way I spelled it...sometimes I'm LaydBack71 when the platform requires.

Monduj1

When DW and I were still dating 30+ years ago, I got my first personalized license plate combining my nickname "Mo" (shortened version of my last name) and her nickname "Duj" (her name is Judy, but her young nephew pronounced it "Dujy" or "Duj"). State required at least one numeral in vanity plates back then, so "Monduj1" was created.

I use my nickname, Abe, for introductions. However, most people give me a quizzical look, wrinkle their forehead, and say, "DAVE? Did you say DAVE?". My response is always "ABE! Like HONEST ABE!" Works every time.

This week, we are dedicating the Guardian of the Week to all the Coast Guard men and women who during their careers had the privilege of becoming a Loranimal. A Loranimal is a term of endearment given to a person who is serving or has served at a Coast Guard Long Range Navigation (Loran) site.

Some say the nickname Loranimal is given only to the Electronic Technicians (ET) who spent the majority of their Coast Guard careers bouncing from one Loran station to another, but I also know other Guardians who are not ETs that refer to themselves as Loranimals. It is a name reserved for a distinct and rather small group of individuals from across all ranks and ratings including Machinery Technicians , Storekeepers and even Food Service Specialists (who else is going to make sure Guardians eat right and can survive in some of the furthest reaches of the nation since being a Loranimal often meant being sent to an isolated duty station like Port Clarence or Attu in Alaska or to an atypical Coast Guard location like Las Cruces, New Mexico or Boise City, Oklahoma).

From the phrase made famous by Horace Greeley, publisher of the New York Tribune, in an editorial printed in 1865. I'm an Easterner now, but I still miss the years I spent in western Kansas. (Greeley County, Kan., and its county seat, Tribune, were named in honor of the publisher.)

Mine is a slight corruption of Wabakimi (Provincial Park) in North-western Ontario. It is one of the nicest if not the best fly-in or paddle-in park in Ontario. We have flown into it 8 or 9 times when we owned our 206; paddled into it 5 or 6 times. Some of the greatest back-country fishing and camping available! (almost 9000 sq klms or 3400 sq miles)

When I tried to use the correct spelling 25 years ago I surprisingly found it used as a handle on some long forgotten website.

As always I've learnt some fine pieces of info and history behind some of the handles on here.

My motto, never stop learning!

Stay safe,

Auf Deutsch ...

Since I will be a grandfather to a sixth and seventh grandchild next month, all under the age of four, I’m called “Opa”, which is grandpa in German. I go by Fred as a shortened version of my first name, which is “Fritz” in German: hence “OpaFritz”
Since I’m mostly of German with a little Swiss heritage, I went with Opa, my wife is mostly Italian in heritage (her grandparents were from Sicily), she’s called “Nonna” (grandma in Italian).

I live in Cincinnati and my nickname is Gus. Only my mom calls me by my real name and only when she's trying to get my attention ;-)

Happy Camping!

After 27 years service, I’ve been retired from the NJ State Park Police for 20 years this year and my fiancé is a Emergency Veterinarian Nurse. Started our RV adventures just 3 years ago and can’t wait ‘til she retires to hit the road more than than 30-50 days a year

I am a bagpiper and I graduated from Marshall University, home of the Thundering Herd. Whenever I return to campus for Homecoming and other events I play my pipes at tailgates, bars, hotels; etc. My friends dubbed me The Herdpiper and it quickly caught on. GO HERD!!!

Nightfighter

When in Thailand/Vietnam wore tiger-strip flight suit when going up in choppers. Crews started calling me Nightfighter, I liked it, and it stuck.

Great Text: " Dear Wife, I'm at the Pub having beers with me friends. Be home in 20 minutes, if not; reread text."
