I look at any snake and see a COBRA and that tells me it must die, regardless of it's supposed contributions to the sustainability to natures balance. I would burn my home if a snake was in it and almost did once.

Eegads man- you are cracking me up! Myself, snakes don't bother me one bit- poisonous or not. I once wrangled a black snake (now there is one big mean snake!) about 100 yards across my property just to get rid of him, but would never kill them. Except for the poisonous ones.

You think like me if my cat cant kill it ( she thinks small ones are a moving string) I use me 12 ga. pellet rifle . The pic could be a milk snake but I hope with the pic of the shovel in front of it ,its now a dead snake the best kind

I agree with tdst51. Most snakes are more afraid of us than we are of them and will try to get away from us. It's a real shame to just kill them outright.

My research led me to the same answer. It was in a water heater closet and plenty of stuff for snakes and rats to nest in. I got rid of the stuff and the snake. Not to offend the nature people, but I kill snakes I see/can. Problem is I always find them it at bad time. Last year I killed a copperhead less than 10 feet from this one. I still think about him working out there in the bushes or weedeating or maintenance. I worked in there all week replacing gas lines, valves and redoing the insulation on the water lines....found the snake cleaning up.

We only have 2 poisonous snakes in all of NJ but only one here in South Jersey and that is a Timber rattler. They are usually very docile unless prevoked.
Up in the northern hills they also have Copperhead which are aggressive as heck and will chase you. I don't blame people, especially with children or pets, to off their heads when found near the home. Heck, in Texas don't they hunt rattlesnake?

I doubt that is a copper head . They are usually very aggressive and would not have give you time to take a picture. At least do not act like or look like the ones in SW Virginia.

You are not kiddin! This was over head over the walkway to the beach access in Virginia Beach. Though a harmless rat snake, Most people never saw it.

Copperheads are normally docile snakes. They think they are hiding so they try to blend in..that's why more people here are bitten by them. They lay still till the last minute. The mean and big ones here are cotton mouths...they WILL chase you.

I believe hognose makes a sound that kinda mimics rattlers, but it comes from the head.

Unfortunately, you are all wrong. It's a dead snake. Too bad though, not all snakes are out to get you and some are actually beneficial.
