Had two of them Fairlanes. I was in love with the body style. It was a big box but I could fit so many people in it. What else do you think about while your tennis shoes are new and you hormones are out of check?

First one, I put oversized shackles on that made the ride so bad that when I turned sharp I could lift the inside tire.

First car was a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville, 2 door, bucket seats and center console. 389 and a dual-coupling automatic 4 speed. It was a beauty.
First truck was a 1956 Chevy panel truck. It had been modded with a 327, 3 speed auto, A/C, and power bucket seats. The hood had been louvered, they were perfect. Wish I still had that one.

I have a friend who ordered a new car for his dad... he was in his 20's and took charge of the car order. I am not 100% sure of the year model. It was a 64 Buick Wildcat 4 door. 425 cid with 2 4v carbs(ha ha). His father didn't even know until he was at a gas station and the attendant said "dual quads". That's when the fight began. I would be sure it's the only one they ever made.

1966 Chevrolet El Camino 327 with a powerglide. Threw enough money at it that I could've bought a new car. I think I changed exhaust systems 4 times, intake manifolds twice, carbs 3 times, ignition systems 3 times, transmissions, rear ends....not because it needed them, but I wanted faster, louder, etc.

Traded her for a 1967 Mustang 302. Everything since the 'Stang left has been blah.

Compared to many of these cool cars, mine was a bust. It was a 1981 Toyota Corolla. The only cool thing about it was that it was the last generation of rear wheel drive Corollas so it was great at doing donuts in parking lots.

Seen a couple of them back then even on dealer show room floor. . I had a chance to buy one with duel quads but did not want 4 door so I got the 2dr Wildcat with old nail head engine. BTW when I was still working on the RR the big wheels had one of the Buicks used as hi-rail with the big 425 duel quad engine in it. Got to drive several times. Lots of power. Later RJD

Mine was a 1968 AMC Javelin SST. I bought it from my brother for $300 when I was 15. The pic isn't mine but it was the same color.

Mom had an 80 chevette. It was the polar opposite of "high-tech". Maybe one step up the evolutionary ladder from a ford 8N tractor as far as sophistication went. I actually learned to drive in that thing.

But it was a cockroach of cars. You literally could not kill one. It was old-school, body-on-frame and I don't think it would actually go fast enough to destroy it in a wreck.

Subaru sedan.... I think it was 1993. My grandfather drove it, then my brother drove it, and then I drove it. I loved that weird yellow car.

Tim - I used to work on those back in the day. You're right, it was hard to kill them. But, they were inibody cars,,,,,,
