Wiring LED lights

Wiring in some LED lights that dont have much draw. About an amp total. Didn't know if I could run the wires (18 awg) straight to the 12v battery or tie into an AC-DC power supply with a simple switch. Didn't know if anything needed to be in the circuit like a fusible link wire, fuse block or whatever. It's a small wire and dont think a smaller one could be found. Any thoughts

You want a fuse as close to where you are picking up power as possible.

Just imagine a short to ground along the entire length of the wire you are running. Put the fuse where it will protect that entire length.

I usually run 16ga for lighting wiring. It's not really for the current capability but since it is bigger, it's stronger. Less likely to damage.

For a wire that small what size fuse would you suggest ?

15A for 18 gauge
20A for 16 gauge

That is max size. If all you have is a 5A draw, you can obviously use something smaller.

Thanks. I'm assuming that ties into the positive wire?
