Words and meanings

Posted this on FB earlier, thought I would post it here as well.

Was having some work done one day last week that required a dump truck and a tractor. After the driver pulled his truck in and unloaded his tractor. ....He looked at me and said "Imoan pull my truck over here outta the way"
We are pretty much all familiar with:
Mammanims - Momma and thems ...Moms house
Daddynims - Daddy and thems .... Dads house
... But it got me thinking. ..words/phrases we 'use' in general discussion, usually in the south. Since folks on here travel so much we should at least be familiar with or know the definition:

Imoan - I am going to
Goata - go to the. ..."Imoan 'goata' house see you later
T'marruh - tomorrow....."Imoan goata house....catchy t'marruh"
Catchy - catch you
Catchylater - catch you later
Moanback - come on back...... mainly used when backing an RV or trailer
accompanied by erroneous hand waving

So if you share in this wisdom....Please by all means add to my list. ..I only ask that you at least define the word or share in a sentence.

Mommanem: Your family. Your parents and siblings. Mom and them. As in "Goin' up to see my mommanem"

Racheer: Your current location. Right here. "I'm racheer at Baker an' Main St. Whiryou?" or "The bottle opener goes racheer in this drawer."

used in a sentence: Yownt a beer?

Last time is was anywhere near the South ('86) I got the comment "You folks from California are quick" (said reallllly slowly with a twang-think Mountain Man from Duck Dynasty)
My mother was busting up inside. It was hard not to laugh out loud.

If I came down there I'd have so much fun trying to decipher what was being said, and I'm sure I'd be the butt of a few jokes.
Sounds like another item for the bucket list!

Surprised you didn't get;

yain't frum 'round heeya aryuh

We can dectect that 'rat away.

DH is a native New Yorker. He got it a LOT when we first moved back here to my home town.....and yeah...it's also the home of Duck Dynasty.

And for the record, Mountain Man lays it on thick for the show. He has a radio (talk show) on one of the local stations. Commercial breaks hit after every two sentences he speaks. /snark

And speakin' of ribs, from the other thread;

My ex is from Deeeelight, Arkansas...home of Glen Campbell

That's backwoods "backerds" I'm tellin' ya.

Went in to a restaurant one time and he ordered Prime Rib.

wait for it.....

He was PO'D big time when it arrived. He thought he was getting some REALLY GOOD, REALLY FINE! BBQ Ribs!

I wanted to dig a hole and crawl in it, or better yet just dig a tunnel all the way out to our vehicle so I could leave without being seen.

Disclaimer; Please note the adjective EX.

Being from Jersey (nothing New about it anymore) a favorite is "yous" like: "Did yous remember to do your homework?"

Here in PA we have fairly common pronunciations, just interesting grammar assembly:

"I'm going to throw the horse over the fence some hay".

One of my favorite pronunciations is the answer to the question "Is that yours?" which is often "Yes, that is mayan."

Same in Arkansas, most folks had carports (open on 2 or 3 sides), garage is totally enclosed with a big door(s) fer gittin' tha truk in an out.

Yeah but 'round here, it's a car port...period....geraj doors or not....my Dad even has a "truck port". (chuckle) Really *nice* separate "port"....brick half walls on 3 sides with bricked in support columns.

Dat's for his pick 'em up truck. Covered walkway from the house to it.

Men love their trucks 'round here, they do!

How to Speak Southern - Southern Humor

Baws: Your employer. "The baws may not always be right, but he's always the baws."

Best: Another baffling Southernism that is usually couched in the negative. "You best not speak to Bob about his car. He just had to spend $300 on it."

Braht: Dazzing. "Venus is a braht planet."

Bud: Small feathered crature that flies. "A robin sure is a pretty bud."

Cawse: Cause, usually preceded in the South by the adjective "lawst" (lost). "The War Between the States was a lawst cawse."

Cayut: A furry animal much beloved by little girls but detested by adults when it engages in mating rituals in the middle of the night. "Be sure to put the cayut out-side before you go to bed."

Chunk: To throw. "Chunk it there, Leroy. Ole Leroy sure can chunk 'at ball, can't he? Best pitcher we ever had."
