I had the same problem. Took the cover off the compressor wiring compartment & found the wiring terminals burned, corroded. Repaired replaced terminals, AC still working as good as new.
Of course every place I called told me the AC was junk. I understand no Tech would want to spent as much time as I did to find the problem.
