Hi Randy, I purchased the XL version but they were too long as well. I used them without the second 'Bar' and all is well. I did call the manufacturer to ensure it was safe. I will take a photo tonight. With respect to the Snap Pads, mine are all 9 inch and round. I do not remember seeing any that were square or rectangular...

I made it out of thin wall electrical conduit and a couple $1 solar lights from Wally World.
