Thermostat/Furnace - New Guy
 

Hello all.

I could not post this to ‘furnaces,’ so I’m trying here. Forgive me if this is a breach of protocol.

I picked up my new trailer (Wildwood 230BHXL) on February 18th,a nd have not campoed with it yet. It is currently hooked up to my house and we are stocking it etc.

I tried to run the furnace today (it was cold!) and when I ran it on ‘heat’, both the furnace AND the Air Conditioner ran! Am I missing something? I triple-checked, and yes, both the furnace and the A/C run when thermostat is on ‘heat.’

I’m hoping it’s just something I’m doing wrong? The dealer gave a thorough walk-through, but never really shows HOW to work everything. Believe me, they will get a call tomorrow.

Any advice help would be awesome!

Try reseting the fan on the thermostat to "Auto".

Your A/C is not running... only the fan/blower is. Do what HangDiver said. Cycle the thermostat mode through Heat, Cool and stop at Fan. Use + or - keys to cycle Fan setting through LO and HI and stop at AU (Auto).

I wonder why freezing cold air is coming from AC vents then, when it is on ‘Heat’

As mentioned When the fan mode of the thermostat is on auto the fan does not run. On either hi or Lo the AC fan will run to assist in circulating the air.

Appreciate the help, but I swear, the AC is not just pushing air when I’m trying to run heater...it is literally blowing ice cold air.

Example: yesterday it was high 40s. Set thermostat on ‘heat’ (little sizzly lines and says ‘heat’ on LCD display). The heat works great, and heat is pouring from the heater vents (black ones near floor). Yet,. The A/C unit up top is running. I understand the blower running part, but it should not be blowing ice cold refrigerated air, yes? I know what A/C air feels like, and it is literally running the AC too.

Appreciate all the helpful suggestions, and was hoping this is an easy fix. I’ll be calling the dealer today. I’ll let you know what shakes out.

Have you set the thermostat to "auto" as mentioned above? The AC fan should not come on at all when on heat and auto. Do you have a single Dometic thermostat? Do you have thermostat manual?

Go here and follow instructions to initialize your thermostat.

There is nothing to call about. You have been told the fix several times.

I'm not going to say your A/C compressor isn't running because we've all seen some odd things but I've personally never heard/seen of one doing this and would be very surprised if this is the case.

As EVERYONE has said, with the thermostat 'fan' mode set to something other than 'AUTO', the blower fan only (in the A/C) will run when you select furnace. It is an option given the consumer and is designed this way to distribute the heated air (warm air rises) throughout the coach. It will take a good long time (if ever) for the air blowing out the A/C duct work to feel warm. It is only re-distributing ambient air and even then, ambient air feels cool when it is blowing.

This topic gets reported here at least once per week, as well as the same on other R/V forums. I'm guessing that to be hundreds or thousands of times. I have never read one single reply back where the A/C compressor was actually running after the solution was posted.

As he has made up his mind to go through the dealer, lets see what he finds out when he posts the results. This may be what it takes for him to confirm that at least some of what he reads on the forum is beneficial.

It takes time for the air to warm up and reach the air return for the AC. Plus the fact that you are moving the cooler air it will feel colder, this is the same way the wind chill factor affects you when outside.

Exactly! I agree, the AC should have no business coming on when on HEAT :)

Yes, it is a Dometic thermostat.

Calling the Dealer today was an exercise in futility, as I was in voice prompt purgatory and had to get back to work.

I let it run over 30 minutes...ice cold, refrigerated air...

Did you take the time to set the thermostat as suggested?

Did you try reseting the thermostat fan to "AU"?

For now you can just turn off the breaker for the ac until you get it figured out. It does sound like the t-stat is stuck in manual mode.
