New 30DS question - X Package?

The FR3 brochure doesn't actually discuss the X Package . . but on the 30DS is the only way to get two air conditioners and 50 amp service to get the X Package? That seems to include the 18 Cu. ft. fridge . . which we'd honestly need like a hole in the head. I mean, it's nice but then you give up the pantry. So lots of room for cold food, and no room for anything else. Or can you get the 50 amp and dual AC separately?

GT Traveler 10-20-2018 09:48 AM

Take a look at it closely. We saw a 2019 30DS this year at the Goshen rally and they placed a small pantry to the right of the refrigerator. Don't know if they did that in the 2018 model you are considering. They do model versions throughout the production year, so it may have already changed in 2018.

You might take a look at the 2019 model before you buy as they changed the slides away from the cable style, which gives you more room around the bed to make it. They added a theater seating option versus the sofa/bed and added the washer/dryer connections in the bedroom closet also. A couple of nice features that I am not sure is available in the 2018 model year.

Good Luck!

Agreed on inspecting the pantry to the right of the refrigerator. If the pantry is present, the refrigerator is 12cf, not 18cf. I was told by a Forest River factory person that the factory heavily discourages the dealerships from ordering any FR3s without the 50amp/Dual AC package. Not sure but in 2019 models 50amp might be the only available configuration.

We had a 2017 30DS and it had a small pantry alongside the 18 cu. ft. refrigerator.

In most cases, if you order it, you would be able to get the 2 A/C’s. Which then gives you 50 amp service.

Saw the NEW 2019 FR3 at Hershey and we have ordered same and take delivery at the end of October. It does come with the two A/C units--one of which is a heat pump, large refrig, pantry, walkaround bed with small side tables, and theater seating. Later after a brake-in period I am interested in adding some upgrades like Robert has.

GT Traveler 10-25-2018 12:15 AM

Well Ron, I think you will enjoy your new FR3. We sure enjoy ours and use it all the time. Enjoy!

Congratulations on ordering your new 2019 FR3.

I think a special order FR3 is the best way to go. I special ordered mine and I have the factory final checklist for my FR3 28DS and it has my name on it. The salesman let me know when it was coming to the Dealership. When I showed to inspect and gave him a check from the bank. The salesman had to put this was on the window to keep people out:

I know you will have fun with your FR3 made just for you.

Please post when you bring your baby home.

Robert, saw your signature showing SnapPads. I ssume those are the same one's I saw at Hersey from Equalizer Systems booth. What size did you order and how are they working for you? I made my own wooden pads for my Entegra when I had it.

I purchased RV SnapPad Permanently Attached Leveling Jack Pad for 9 inch Round Metal Feet (Xtra Camper Pack (Qty 4)) from Amazon. I love Amazon free shipping.

The 9" Xtra SnapPads have been on since I installed in May 2017. I would measure your pads before ordering as I do not know if the newer FR3s have the 9" round jacks pads.

I love them, I do not have to put blocks under the jacks before I level the FR3. I have a couple of two foot long 4x10s, but did not use them this year.

In the past I would have had to put blocks under the front wheels. It is okay for the front wheels to be up but, I never let the rear wheel leave the ground.

Strange. We purchased a 2019 in June. It has the X package, but no pantry or nightstands. I guess it's not a 'new 2019'!

Opelmel 10-28-2018 10:33 AM

We had a 2017 30ds with the X package. It did not have any night stands. It had a small, slide-out type pantry to the right of the refrigerator. It was very narrow - more like a storage rack for canned goods or boxes of noodle mix if you put them in the long way

Iankerr 10-29-2018 08:55 PM

I have a 2019

I perchased a 2019 fr3 30ds
I like it the fridge is big and I have a small pantry. I added pullout shelves because itís deep. I also added shelves under the sink under the dinette in the bathroom and in the back storage compartment.
I found it noisy in the front so I added weatherstripping to the doors and put small cork pieces to the mesh as they were rattling. I also found that the foam did not return around the heater so I chincked it with batts of insulation. I also found that the heater has no baffle. So I taped a cut six pack of a samual adems carton. To it so the wind didnít blow in. The black pillow I used as a shim to keep the above bed from squeezing.
We are now able to hear each other talk and listen to music at a reasonable volume.

Wish our salesman had done that!
We purchased our RV on the first day of a show, then watched all week as the lookers walked through it. I drew the line at a family with kids carrying big slushies with no lids. The parents gave me a strange look until I told them I had bought the unit. Kids stayed outside, at least while I was there.

Pictures Please!!

I used black silicone caulking on my front grill. I also used weather stripping around the hinges and wherever the fiberglass touched fiberglass on the front grill.

see: I ended up using black silicon caulking in the grill

I was wonder about the fiberglass batts And what is "a cut six pack of a samual adems carton?"

Iankerr 10-30-2018 06:51 AM

Ok there is a foam at the front just above the grill doors on the inside top we’re the foam meets the front fibreglass. Follow it along to the heater on the passenger side. Because there gun won’t go any further there is a gap on the other side of the heater. I chinked it with insulation bats. The same heater has a square hole we’re the air intake is. Normally that heater is on the inside with a baffle or hose to get air in. This one does not so the air can blow straight in.which is noisey. I taped a small L shaped cardboard in front of the hole so the air has to go around it or up from the bottom not direct. It worked great

BatesMotel2 10-30-2018 09:00 AM

We have had a 2018 30DS with X package for 6 months now and it does not have a pull out pantry with the 18 cu.in. Fridge. We had to remove some of the weatherstripping in the bottom channel of the passenger window to reseal the sliding window frame to window because it was torn. Depending on speed, the 4 vent holes on the lower outside of the window frames can whistle and make noise. FR said you can buy some type of wind covers to reduce the wind, will have to look into that. I put electrical tape over the holes and the noise is gone! Of course you don't want to leave tape over the holes in the rain, just a temporary fix to reduce the wind noise in the coach 8-)

Do you have a window in the bedroom under the TV? I've seen it in a picture of the 30DS gallery on the Forest River site, but never in real life. I would love to have this window for balmy nights. All we have are the two small windows on the slide at the head of the bed, and the hatch vent on the ceiling so there's very little cross ventilation.

BatesMotel2 10-30-2018 09:39 PM

TKLAK

I have never seen a bedroom window on a 30DS like your photo, must be a different model.

Why do you put blocks under your jacks
