What is in the space above my freezer?

Iíve looked in the appliance threads and online but canít find anything about the build prints for our 2018 Flagstaff 25 FKS.

We have the fridge with separate freezer above. Donít have the model number on me but itís the kind that runs on elec and/or LP.

There is a blank space in the wall above the freezer with a wood panel. When you knock on the panel it sounds hollow, and seems to be crying out for some sort of modification to enable us to use that space as storage. Does anyone know what us up there? Can we remove the wood panel and use the space? Thanks in advance.
