Brake controller

Whatís everyone think about my needing a brake controller
I have a Nissan Xterra pro-4x. V6. I bought the 2020 forest river Rockwood 1640 esp. Iím not sure if I need that but welcome any feedback.

Seems like an easy install either way just donít know if I want to spend the mullah on that if itís not needed.

Thank you!!

Yes, you need a brake controller. And a 7 pin plug, if you don't already have one. Trucks like that may only have a four pin plug. You don't want to find out during an emergency stop or going down a steep hill that your tow vehicle doesn't have enough braking power. I have a Prodigy 3 and think it works great.

Thank you!

How much does the trailer weigh, and does it have brakes? If the trailer has brakes already installed, I can see no reason why you would not want to make use of them.

YEAH ! does that thing even have elec. brakes ? Doesn't look big enough. I haven't found anything on it yet.

The trailer weighs around 1700 lbs. and has electric brakes.

Yes it has electric brakes on it

Found where listed standards are 7-pin plug and electric brakes. You will need a controller.

I bought a controller and wiring ext for it. Guess I might as well use it. Can’t hurt I suppose.

Thanks everyone!

I have an older 12' popup and weighs 2500lbs and doesn't have brakes. It's much older.

Got a 7-pin on the truck already ?

I have a utility trailer without any electric brakes that I've had loaded up heavier than what your trailer is and have had no issues stopping... But if I had electric brakes, I'd want to use them. They really do make a difference.

My 10' utility is rated at 3000lbs and has no brakes.

I have a 12 foot utility trailer conveniently rated (just under 3000 pounds) at 2990 pounds, I assume so the manufacturer would not need to put brakes on it. It did not come with brakes, but I installed electric brakes on the trailer myself and always use a controller in the tow vehicles.
