Pickup selection

I've jumped through hoops with dealer transfers for the pickup I want to buy. Two times. Each failed. What a bunch of frustration. I finally went to the Ford 'Build your own" website. Instead of 2019 or 2020. I built a 2021 F350 WITH the 10 speed (which wasn't available with the 250 unless you bought the big engine). IT WAS CHEAPER than what the dealer was trying to off load to me in older F250 year models.

And this was a dealer we've dealt with for a long time. So all these "what pickup do I buy questions" are more about shopping and the current times. New F350 fitted exactly how we waned it verses left over inventory that didn't sell that costs more? For less than an older 250 model year? Duh. You just have to wait 2.5 months. Wouldn't it be worth it?

If you can wait... sure!

I would do the special order. That's how I did it with my Jeep Wrangler. I couldn't find anything close to what I was looking for, not to mention the dealers all add about $2000 worth of extra garbage that I don't want or need. Almost six years later I would order it exactly the same, based on what was available in December 2014.

I special ordered my F-150. Got exactly what I wanted. Used Costco. Better than ford x plan

I didn't mean to be pompous. I've been driving a 2000 F250 for all these years and budgeted for a new rig for some time - mostly due to the wife railing on me. It's just fine as a work truck/log dragger and the trade in is a joke anyway. So I have time on my side. I well know that doesn't work in every situation.

I just wanted to make the point that dealer trades are frustrating. Ya get more and less than desired and at a price that may be more or mostly equal to a current year model set up exactly how you want it. In this case I could move to a F350 with the 10 speed but with the smaller v8 (6.2). It wasn't offered in the F250 unless you bought the big V8. I mainly move hay trailers on a county road, not big RVs at highway speeds so I don't need massive horsepower.

Going to the dealership seems to be a new game every time. But they are consistent in extracting the most for the least delivered.

BTW, I have an old '74 Land Cruiser that I've retired from log pulling. My F250 was about $2500 for trade in. I can sell the Cruiser for $10k as is. It was an easy decision.

I just ordered a 2021 F350...probably won't see it until December or January, but it is EXACTLY what I wanted.

Yup. Why, why would I get an older F250 for the same price as a 2021 F350 and with better options? I don't need a 1 ton. Hopefully it rides the logging trails well.
