Cummins Onan RV QD 3200
Would someone who has this same generator take a look at yours for me? I have a red wrapped wire coming out of right side with bundled black coated wires that go to the wiring harness. The red coated wire was zip tied to the bundled black wires and has come loose. My question is where does the red coated wire end or attach/terminate? It has a metal rod on the end and I think it is a heat sensor but it's just hanging there outside the air filter cover. I sure would appreciate some help with this!

Help please!!
I sure wish someone would take 5 minutes and help me out with this!!

Can't help much, maybe a little
So here's a link to Onan's RV generator manual page:
https://www.cummins.com/rv-generator-manualsThis includes the operator's, installation, and parts manuals. I looked through the installation manual but didn't come up with anything which obviously corresponds to your loose wire/device. Your best hope (assuming no one else here has an idea) may be contacting Forest River directly as dealers seem to know less than the owners here. |
Thanks Dave, I downloaded the manual too and couldn't see where the sensor terminated. I was hoping someone who had one could take a look and tell me. I think it goes inside the air filter cover but don't see anything that confirms that for me. I may just have to drive around some campgrounds until I find a Solera like mine!

This generator, or others similar to it, are probably fairly broadly used. You might also ask on a technical forum rather than a model specific forum:

Diesel
My rig's on a trip with our kids but will be back later today. Mine's a propane-powered generator, however so may not have similar wiring. Nonetheless, I'll take a look as I winterize today.

I have my Solera home today and remembered your post. The red wire looks like a sensor. It goes in the upper corner of the filter cover.

That is the QD 3200 built circa 2014 with the Hatz diesel motor. There may be other builds.
Good luck . |
Rich, M Thank you so much for the info. From your pictures it looks like there is a small slot the sensor goes into?
|
Yes wires go into that small slot
