Propane Tank Noise

Our propane tanks seem to be making a chirping noise as the propane flows. You can feel the pulsing of propane in the lines between the tanks (both tanks) and the regulator. There is a chirp with every pulse of gas. The more gas is being used, the louder the noise.

I tried switching to 2 brand new tanks and still get the chirping noise. All connections are tight.

Does anyone have an idea what might be going on? Is it the tanks or the regulator or something else?

Usually the regulator. Now you mentioned both tanks. If you have both tanks open, I assume you have the regulator switched to one side, or the other. If not, make sure it is pointing to only one side. Also, a few on here have had problems with the pigtails, the lines between the tank and the regulator. Seems they have some check valves and stuff built in them.

Might try the cheaper of the two, one pigtail, or one regulator. If the the pigtail is cheaper, and fixes it, then do the other side. If not, time for a regulator.

I do have the regulator switched to one side at a time. I'll try one new pigtail to see if that eliminates the noise. I read some where about a difference between 'RV pigtails' and 'BBQ pigtails'. Are there different pigtails?

I finally got around to switching out the pigtails and the noise is gone. I used new 12" pigtails from Camco. Thanks for your help!

Have a 2013 SP280 and noticed the noise coming from propane tanks on first trip. Never heard of the problem before and great to have a site like this to point me in the right direction. My dealer is quite a ways away and so instead of the hassle of taking the trailer in I just bought new pigtails at local car parts store and problem solved. Little bit disappointed that this is still a problem on a 2013 as sure seems like a known issue. Oh well easy fix and pigtails were cheaper than the gas to take it to the dealer.

we have the same chirping
it came in handy a while back
I heard it chirping when I thought all gas was off
BBQ was not
saved us from wasting a lot of gas
think we will live with it for now

Ours was loud enough to hear inside and not all something the missus was going to put up with. I told her it was one way to know if propane was flowing but that was a short conversation :)
