Air con fan setting

I have just purchased shamrock 233 - we are camping for first time so have 30 amp and are using ac. It works great but only seems to work when I switch fan to ON rather than the expected AUTO. In AUTO mode the ac unit comes on for a minute then shuts off. I don't want Dan running all night. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

If you have the domestic digital thermostat, this is normal when the fan wants to change speeds. You need to wait a bit longer on Auto and it will restart on its own.

Hi - sorry. Should have indicated model. It is a dometic duo-therm thermostat (it is analog not digital) and the ac is dometic 57915 541g/595.

If I have it in auto and wait the ac just shuts off.

Thanks for any further insights!

What is your incoming voltage?

If it is very low (less than 110), the AC and fan motors starting up at the same time:

1) may draw more amps than your current service can supply in hot weather. This could be a campground issue.

2) The high amperage draw of the AC compressor motor trying to start with low voltage may be triggering its thermal cut out switch. It will try to start again until it cools off.

When the fan is already running, the lower amp demand of the fan motor may be enough to sustain the voltage while the compressor motor starts.

MAKE SURE YOUR WATER HEATER IS ON PROPANE and NOT 110 AC.
In extreme low voltage situations, you may also need to switch your fridge to propane as well.
