So I just left it hanging....

Having nowhere else to keep my 5th wheel hitch while the truck was in use during major renovations of my mothers house...I just left it hanging on the front of the trailer. Anybody else do this?

Sure was easy to get out...we'll see about getting it back in the truck!

Radio, I've got a neighbor that does the same. He even built a wooden stand to place under the hitch, to take the weight off the jacks.

Lot of people do it. A couple hundred pounds hanging on the king pin is nothing. sure makes storing it a non-issue. :)

Radio, is that a CB or 2M antenna there? How well does this work with the stucture of the RV being right behind it and the truck in front of it?

That's a dual band VHF/UHF (2m/440Mhz) magmount. I used it cause it was lying around unused and paid for!

It's never used when the truck is in front of it. It's only used after the rig is set up and then usually only to communicate with either the truck or a HT that has wandered off someplace. So to answer your question, it works pretty well, remembering the 5th wheel nose is made largely of fiberglass and the pinbox is plenty of ground plane at these frequencies. It would probably work better if mounted higher and level, but it's out of the way and no trouble with limbs and such as it is.
