I am pretty sure that it is a Rack and Pinion slide. Goes out and then drops down to a level floor. Override is a long manaual rod that goes underneath from the opposite side of the camper.

Ok, I gave a try with the advice this weekend. Chocked the wheels, released the coupler latch, pulled a bit forward, and guess what--- it came right off! Thanks so much for all of the advice.
