What is under the strip of carpet in the 8312ss

Can someone tell me what is under the little strip, 2ft of carpet the the slide goes over in the kitchen area. It is kind of annoying to have to clean that little strip. We would like to take it out.

Question about rear slide on 8312ss

We just bought a 2012 8312 with two slides. The front slide is the standard 4ft slide however the rear slide (bunk) when fully extended is about 3/4" narrower at the top than it is at the bottom....
