I did my own mods to the whole tongue and that included double nutting that rod and doubling the size and number of bolts that hold the tray to the frame.

You're good.
When I had an F150 I towed a dry weight TT of 5300 lbs.
I liked to load stuff in the cab and the bed - cooler, tools and wood. The truck handled the TT better with more weight in it.

I've installed a switch for convenience, I used to disconnect one cable from the terminal.
