My "solution" was to remove all of them. I think they look phony and are also a maintenance problem. I've already sold 2 of them to folks who lost them on the highway. I still have 2 front covers...

I got one from JR Products - SKU GSNI-5300-10 - the "10" indicates 10 pounds of opening force which is much better than the original part. The door opens more gently.

I agree with Helwig and especially grip. Trust your power steering and relax your arms. It takes essentially no force to turn the steering wheel even under the worst conditions.
